Inner Wheel Australia
Magazine Autumn 2016 - Issue 95
2
Hello Everyone,
To begin by apologising is not good ploicy. On this
occasion I must, as circumstances way beyond my
control have seen a magazine produced but with an
interrupted and delayed preparation.
Firstly, a massive computer melt down and
secondly medical treatment requiring daily trips to
Brisbane – a 200 hundred kilometre round trip – has
robbed me of time. Hopefully there is light at the
end of the tunnel!!
As this first year of electronic distribution of the
IWA Magazine draws to a close, I thank the
District Editors and Club Correspondents who
have responded well to my requests and wishes.
As I have said before, the magazine is your
publication, I merely put it together. Still, I never
cease to wonder at the incredible work and
achievements of Inner Wheel Members and Clubs
Australia wide.
For this Autumn edition, contributions have been
produced in the order of receipt. Not all clubs have
contributed and that is fine. There will be an
opportunity to report on your club activities and
achievements in late October.
To the Executive Committee of IWA – I say many
thanks for allowing me the ‘freedom of the press’.
My congratulations to you all on what you have
achieved this year.
I hope everyone enjoys reading the magazine as
much as I have enjoyed preparing it for you – a
learning curve for all, but what a great way to
communicate ideas.
Till next year, take care, keep smiling, and
remember that we all belong to a wonderfully
‘Unique and United’ organisation.
As always,
Hugs from Lesley
Belrose President: Jennifer Furness
Research for Cord Blood is going to be boosted soon,
as our roster is being finalized for selling
merchandise and collecting donations. Inner Wheel
Day found us celebrating with a breakfast by
Narrabeen Lake. We had a busy BBQ at Bunnings
just before Christmas.
Hope that you can all join us in October for the IWA
Conference. Some of our Clubs will be home hosting.
Camden President: Janice Newport
In February, 17 members travelled to Mittagong to
join Southern Highlands’ Friendship Day. Camden
Rotary Exchange Student, Morgan, back from a year
in the Czech Republic, gave an enthusiastic slide
presentation. She’s certainly a great ambassador for
Australia.
Funds from ‘Bring & Buy’ in March will be donated
to the Fiji Disaster Relief. A Bunnings BBQ in April
will boost our bank balance and May’s Charity
Morning Tea will support Cord Blood.
North Sydney President: Joan Antarakis
The story of Presidents and Secretaries Now and
Then – 83 years apart…
On 6/12/2015 our club, which
holds Charter No.1, celebrated its
83rd birthday! North Sydney
IWC was the first club chartered
outside GB&I.

Be Unique but be United!!
3
The wisdom of our club stems
from the thread of combining
traditions of our past culture into
the current time frame.
Our twelve regular attendees
(“mature” 60 to 90+ yrs), are
strong-minded and dedicated women working together.
Though difficult to locate younger members to keep up
with technology, positive attitudes help enable us to
continue in service and friendship.
Southern Highlands President: Lorraine McAlpine
We fostered International understanding with clubs as
diverse as:
Kandy and Colombo in Sri Lanka. Member Barbara
Smith, purchased limited edition statues of Sir Donald
Bradman from Bradman Museum and sent them to Sri
Lanka clubs to be raffled, raising a huge amount of
money for their local charities.
A member of Groningen club, The Netherlands, visits
us whenever in Australia, and we’ve visited her in The
Netherlands.
Sydney Inner West President: Julie Yates
During Chairman Christine’s club visit she told us
what drew her to IW – friendship, mentoring and
service. IWA President Kay, on a recent visit, agreed
with those objectives.
Our Mother's day stall will sell candles to raise funds
for PKU research project at Westmead Children's
Hospital.
We’re excited that our Linda Pedersen and Melissa
Freeman will become District Chairman and District
Secretary respectively at Changeover. We offer them
our support and success in the year ahead.
Wollongong President: Heather Jenkins
February’s election of officers resulted in all
positions being filled, except Vice President,
although many of us are being re-cycled again and
again.
Our Bunnings Sausage sizzle fund-raiser in February
was very profitable for our Charity account.
Although these events are very hard work, we enjoy
great fellowship and appreciate the help of our
menfolk.
Bendigo President: Marlene Sullivan
Australia Day BBQ went well – Gourmet Sausages
were the order of the day.
President Marlene gave a Native Plant to 55 new
Australian Citizens in January.
In March, Bendigo had a record breaking hot spell
with 8 consecutive days above 30°c then 3 more
39°c days followed - PHEW!
“Joan” from Pembroke in Wales has been visiting
her daughter in Bendigo and our Member Carol
Penna met up with her for their 18th year in a row.
Echuca President: Lyn Stansbury
At Echuca Inner Wheel it's
"Celebration Year" the
year of the Big 'O'
Birthdays.
We have celebrated 2
special 'O' days and there
are another 5 to come!
But we have decided to
celebrate all our birthdays
by going out to lunch each
month. [There's not many
months where we will have to stay home!]

Fashion Show to raise
money for Cord Blood.
Hamilton President: Susan Parry
Once again we are trend setting, having two Presidents
for the coming year; Susan Parry and Jennie O’Donnell.
With everyone leading busy lives this appears to be the
solution for our Club.
Our meetings continue to be
held in a Members home; our
first meeting of the year we
enjoyed a visit from District
C h a i r m a n C a r o l y n
Monaghan.
Presently we are planning our
Film Night to raise funds for
those in need.
Irymple President: Heather Pinyon
February saw the Election of Officers for 2016-2017
and commencement of planning our fundraising activity,
a Heritage High Tea on Sunday, 1 May, with money
raised to be donated to Local Charities.
Chaffey Aged Care Centre was the venue for March
Meeting, a very interesting and informative slide
presentation was made to Members, Partners and
Residents on a Member’s Kokoda Trail Walk
experience in September 2015.
April meeting will
finalise planning
for our High Tea

birthday.
In March our well attended meeting voted to send a
donation to storm ravaged Fiji.
President Adela showed a
presentation on her visit to
‘The Secret Garden’ in Sydney
by Wendy Whiteley.
Sadly since our
February meeting the passing of four
times President Jo Oliver is a great loss
to our Club and Inner Wheel. Vale Jo!
Cairns President: Wilma Holmes
Cairns Club celebrated its 55th birthday in March with
lots of past Presidents in attendance.
Scotland was the country celebrated on International
Inner Wheel Day with Scottish guest speakers who
cover subjects from costume, food, traditions and the
different clans.
Cairns had members travel to be involved in the
Charter of FNQ Tablelands as well attend this years
Combined Women’s Service Club Dinner.
A successful sausage sizzle will enable more funds to
be distributed locally.
FNQ Tablelands President: Julie Brzozowski
The Inner Wheel Club of FNQ Tablelands was
chartered on 9th April 2016.

special trip to help celebrate this special occasion.
Innisfail President: Margaret Townley
The Club held a Mannequin Parade in March which
was very successful, with nearly all seats being
filled. Innisfail club member Jan Arnell compared
the event, and a local dance group opened the event.
Four local fashion houses provided fabulous fashions
and beautiful mannequins
Many lucky door and raffle prizes were donated by
local businesses and members. These were accepted
graciously by the lucky recipients.
As usual, Innisfail members provided a scrumptious
afternoon tea, which was enjoyed by all.
Money raised from this event will go towards Cord
Blood Research as well as local projects in the
community.
Townsville President: Sandra Richards
Townsville Inner Wheel ladies were excited about
hosting the March District meeting. Unfortunately
this meeting was cancelled, due to lots of heavy rain
and road closures.
This made road conditions unsafe for travel and as
all other clubs are north of Townsville, the wise
decision to cancel meeting was made.

you Di. You're a treasure.

support.
Scarborough President: Heather Percival
We are preparing for a busy year, raising funds by
catering for a Rotary Conference, Swap Meeting, a
Sausage Sizzle, and a Coin for Cord stall.

to dress in national
costume. Members
provided dinner

from around the world. Coupled with ideal weather,
everyone had a lovely time. The money raised is for
"Days for Girls."
Whitfords President: Robyn Wickham
Having raised money by doing one month of Christmas
wrapping, we are now busy donating goods to some of
our pet charities to help with the winter ahead.
We had our usual picnic in the park meeting in March
and found both a breeze and some shade. Good for us!
It was a very hot day.
We also attended fundraising activities for 3 of our
sister clubs which were both enjoyable and useful.
Gosford North President: Kath McGrath
The members have been extremely busy with
preparing DFG kits and ‘welcome bags’ for the
children that Family and
Community Services have
taken into their care.
Kits have been sent to Nepal,
Kenya, East Timor, Cambodia
and Vanuatu.
Proudly we have made 1,000 kits, this milestone
was celebrated with a delicious cake. Twenty
sewing kits have been taken to Uganda, this being
our last project which is an off shoot to DFG. Many
organisations have been involved with both these
projects, for which we are most thankful.
Of course, craft stalls continue to be a fundraiser to
be able to complete these very worthwhile projects.
Scone President: Dianne Chad
Our combined Christmas raffle with the Scone
Rotary club was very successful. At the first coffee
morning for the year, we were joined by a fellow
Inner Wheeler, Joy, from England, she was visiting
local relatives.
Jan Cameron was a worthy nominee for Citizen of
the Year. Both Judith Simos and Sue Lewis belong
to local charities of which awards were given at the
Australia Day celebrations - well done ladies.
The March District
Meeting was held in
Scone. A weekend of

The most significant happening in our Club this year
has been the recent loss of our President Margaret
Lenord’s husband John. John’s Parkinson disease
led to dementia. He had been a loving husband and
dad and good community man. Margaret had quietly
and lovingly coped and supported John through
every stage of his illness. Oh! to find a cure for
Parkinson’s and dementia!
Monthly Birthday lunches are happy times. Inverell
people believe in the cord blood research and will
support our street stall later this month.
Lismore President: Rosemary Davis
Our year commenced with a Friendship Day hosted
by the Inner Wheel Club of Alstonville. It was a
perfect day with a beautiful venue and everybody
enjoyed catching up with old friends.
Our International Night in March celebrated Uganda
with our members dressing in red, yellow and black
the colours of the Ugandan Flag. Our speakers for
the evening were two students and a teacher from
the Summerland Christian School who had recently
returned from a mission to this war torn land.
Narrabri President: Jan McKenzie
Narrabri hosted an Irish night for St Patrick's Day, in
aid of "women's health in Nepal". Members and
guests arrived in different shades of green, and
tables set beautifully for the occasion. The meal
served with Irish Guinness Stew, stewed apple tart

International Inner Wheel Convention
Melbourne 11th
– 14th
April 2018
A LETTER TO IWA MEMBERS
Dear IWA Friends,
HOT OFF THE PRESS….The convention logo, designed by the Graphic Designer of ICMSA in conjunction with
the Local Organising Committee.
Design features:
A returning boomerang, in the hope that delegates will return to Australia another time!
The blue border represents Australia as an island continent surrounded by sea as in the words of our national
anthem, “Our home is girt by sea”.
The yellow background is symbolic of living in a land of sunshine.
The colours of the boomerang are representative of the earthy ochres and sun-burnt country we live in.
The choice of using a boomerang in the design was a reference to the original indigenous
inhabitants of Australia.
Uniquely Australian.
We are confident you will have read the ‘Save The Date’ in the IWA Magazine February 2016
and noted the dates in your diaries. Of course by now, your ‘piggy banks’ are filling up with
$AUD convention dollars, so you too can be a part of what promises to be a memorable
CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP. It won’t be as memorable if IWA members decide not to be there.
Our goal is at least 600 enthusiastic warm friendly welcoming Aussie IW members joining us. That is less than
20 percent of our national membership. We know you won’t let us down.
Registration to attend the convention will open early next year (2017 and no, that is not a typo). In less than
two years from when you read this, the Closing Ceremony will have concluded and your active participation
will be a huge part of the success we will all be celebrating.
Why don’t you start researching Melbourne www.visitmelbourne.com.au and see what all the fuss is about?
We are aware that many IWA members are wondering why they have not heard from us regarding their offers
of help. Please be reassured that you will be hearing from us in the coming weeks and months about sub
committees and other ways you can help. Tours, day trips, Home Hosting, Welcome Reception, Opening
Ceremony, Friendship Dinner, Business Session, Gala Dinner, Closing Ceremony, speakers, entertainment,
sponsorships, merchandise, stalls, display booths, marketing, accommodation, golf tournament… but wait
there’s more!
In the meantime…
STEWARDS If you are interested in being a steward during the Convention, please contact Chief Steward Anne
Mc Gill, directly mcgill39@optusnet.com.au or phone: 03 9707 5287 at your earliest convenience. Anne will
require MANY names for a great variety of tasks. Do remember, that to be a steward, you will need to be
registered (and have paid) to attend the Convention. This is an insurance requirement.
12
HOME HOSTING Coordinator Pam Watkins has already been contacted by some members, which is
encouraging, but of course we are hoping for a lot more offers. A60, A61, A62 members in particular, please
get in touch with Pam soon if you are considering being a Home Host pre or post Convention. Don’t just tell
others you’re going to, tell Pam! watkins31@fastmail.com.au

HOME HOSTING UPDATE
Co-ordinator Pam Watkins
Thank you to those who have put their name down
to Home Host an International Delegate attending
the IIW Convention in Melbourne in April 2018.
Response so far has been promising but we need
more hosts to make this a viable proposition. At
present we have a shortage of homes in the
Convention State of Victoria.
Many Delegates may wish to stay
on after the Convention but prefer
to fly directly to Melbourne and be
hosted within a short travelling
distance from the Convention
Centre. Please give it some thought as we do need
your help.
As we have mentioned previously our
aim is to give the International
Delegates a warm and friendly
Australian experience and the
opportunity to meet with new Inner
Wheel friends.
Just a reminder - Accommodation is only for up to 3
nights pre or post convention NOT during the
Convention (11- 14th
April). Also, your offer now is
not binding it is only an Expression of Interest, you
may pull out if your circumstances change in
anyway.

heard of it!”

At the 2016 Murray Bridge Australia Day Awards,
A70 Past District Chairman Pam Luke was named
Volunteer of the Year.
It is always special to have the Inner Wheel Australia
President come and visit for a District Meeting. It is
even more special when our own Kay Morland drops
by. We haven’t seen too much of her this year, so it
was wonderful to hear what she has been up to.
A dinner with the District

started the visit. It finished
on Saturday night with a
lovely dinner for all
catered by the Inner Wheel
Club of Cranbourne.
Bairnsdale President: Shirley Bardwell
Bairnsdale Club was delighted with the representation
of A62 District members who supported the recent

have our own Yvonne Romp as District Chairman. So
many embraced the theme of hats, handbags, hands
and heels and dressed accordingly, which added to the
atmosphere of the day.
Those who stayed on for the weekend enjoyed the boat
trip on the Gippsland Lakes on board the Sea Bird.

Even the Dog Handlers and

pattern or theme chosen by the
families. A very poignant and
inspirational address.

particularly amongst women
in the Urban Village. The

to many allergens.
Final planning is underway for a “Mother and
Daughter” afternoon tea to be held in May.

Wishart has become very passionate about a new
project, birthing kits for
East Timor. The birthing
conditions and materials
are so primitive in the
region that our President
Deb and our committee
members decided to do
something to help. We
have already sent off our
first package of kits.
We still continue working on our Days for Girls kits and
will have another packing day shortly. At our club we
are always enjoying ourselves.

Baulkham Hills President: Yvonne Whyte
Our international charity, The Myanmar Eye Care
Program, will benefit from our successful dinner at a
local Burmese restaurant.
The raffle prizes were
purchased in Burma by
members who had visited
an Eye Hospital there.
Our major event, wrapping
Christmas gifts and raffle,
was very profitable this
year. Funds going to a
local women’s shelter.
We have also had several purely social events such as
an Australia Day celebration that included Aussie
games.
Beecroft President: Gloria Allison
Up and running with the selling of tickets for our
raffle with lovely prizes - jewellery, handmade quilt,
and a gift voucher for some lucky people.
Collecting for Coin for Cord days keeps us on our
toes. Have enjoyed a few days of chat and laughter
and an umbrella day at “Jazz in the Pines” due to all
the rain.
We also enjoyed the get-together of the “B” clubs,
Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, and ourselves this
month. The book exchange at our meetings is now
going strong also. This aids our funding.
Blacktown City President: Rhonda Bensley
The members are enjoying lots of friendship and
enthusiasm on our regular craft days which continue
to supply craft items for our craft stalls held at a local
shopping centre.
The club has become involved in the Days for Girls
project and sewing days are being held to make all the
items required to make up the kits that go to girls in
underdeveloped countries.
We were thrilled to be able to induct a new member
at our last meeting.
Campsie President: Joan Brown
Campsie, “Unique and United” as always, enjoyed a
lovely afternoon making their own pizzas and raising
funds for Cord Blood at the home of member Helen
Angelis in April.
Our Quilt raffle was most successful for Careflight and
we also held a stall at Campsie Rotary markets
enabling us to unclutter our homes, as well as raise
money for our charity fund.
We will also visit Lakemba Nursing Home before the
end of the Inner Wheel year.
Kenthurst President: Maggie Dutton
At our January meeting Guest speaker and member
Nikki Watson, aided by Marie Beck, spoke about the
Cooee March. They both went on the reenactment of
the NSW Snowballing Recruitment March of 1915-16.
Well done!
We served morning tea for those attending Australia
Day celebrations arranged by Kenthurst Rotary at John
Benyon Park.
On Anzac Day we provided morning tea to the people
attending the Service. The Kenthurst Community
sincerely appreciated our efforts.
Liverpool Combined President: Judith Banks
International Inner Wheel Day was celebrated with
family and friends at Ambrosia Seafood Restaurant at
Silverdale, in the lovely countryside surrounded by
Olive Trees.
DC Carol Leaver and District Members attended our
February meeting, great friendship and good company.
Members enjoyed a lovely time at the Hydro Majestic
Hotel at Medlow Bath, dinning on a petite high tea and
taking in the wonderful views over Jamieson Valley.
We also attended Friendship Day at Nurrangingy
Reserve at Doonside, enjoying a warm cup of tea and
chatter in the fresh air.
Friday 29th April 2016 we will be holding our annual
Coin for Cord Day at Liverpool Hospital.
Nepean President: Robyn Portelli
Once again Jenny Richardson and husband Brian
hosted a cocktail party in January to celebrate
International Friendship Day. The theme this year was
“green and gold”. We were joined by 3 ex club
members and their partners. Everyone had a great
evening of food, wine and fellowship.
Club members met recently to
enjoy a game of “lawn
bowls”. What better way to
spend a Sunday afternoon
great company, a bit of gentle
exercise followed by dinner
and refreshments!

Social Convenor Stephanie, organised a great lunch on
the Nepean Belle complete with perfect weather.
A Trivia Night in April is organised at Baulkham Hills
Bowling Club as a Charity Fund Raiser and Barefoot
Bowls has also been arranged for May.
Denis and Flavia Riva became first time grandparents
to Huxley Ross so great excitement in the Riva
household. On a sadder note Chris Kelly’s Mum
passed away in Melbourne just recently so our
condolences to Chris and her family.
Many of our members have been travelling. Lee Hall
caught up with Jennie Leathley, who now lives near
Tweed Heads. Jennie was Norwest Inner Wheel’s
second President.
Parramatta President: Caroline Flynn
After 68 years we recognise with pride the
contributions, dedication and service of every one of
our Parramatta members including:-
Gwen Davies - IWA President 1970-71.
IIW President 1975-76.
Olga Bennett - IWA President 1984-85.
District A53 Chairmen
Sandra Castley 2004-05.
Jill Lawrenson 2011-12.
Lyn Ison 2014-15.
We are thankful for continuing friendships. Some
members will now retire and a number will transfer to
other clubs.
Our best wishes to IIW, IWA and especially clubs in
our great District A53.
Penrith President: Jean Cook
Members of the Inner Wheel club of Penrith have
enjoyed meetings and lunches at the Rowers, Penrith
and have attended outings.
We have supported charities, both locally and
internationally. Guest speakers have been interesting
and varied.
A number of grandchildren and great grand-children
have arrived, but unfortunately some of our members
have suffered ill health and accidents.
Ryde President: Julie Thorp
This will be our final report for Ryde Inner Wheel as
unfortunately we are closing after 53 years of
Friendship and Community involvement.
Within the 53 years our club has had Five District
Chairmen serve District A53:-
Heather Nance 1988-89.
Jean Morton 1990-91.
Rose Rocca 1996-97.
Wendy Wonson 1999-00.
Shirley Grant 2005-06.
It is very sad to close, but some of our members will
continue with other clubs.
One of our current members Pat Bond was a Charter
member and we wish her well.
We wish all the best for all our friends in IIW, IWA
and District A53.
Smithfield President: Susan H. Lumley
2016 began with a most enjoyable High Tea at
President Sue Lumley’s home, to celebrate Inner
Wheel International Day. Sue baked delicious
goodies for us, all served on her late Mother’s
beautiful English china. A number of guests joined us
on this lovely occasion.
In April members attended Harmony Day at the Les
Powell School which caters for severely disabled
children. This school is our major charity.
It is always a joy to see how these children respond to
the wonderful education they receive at this school,
the Staff and Teachers are just marvellous.
The Hawkesbury President: Ida Harris
A very successful trivia night in February raised
funds for drought relief and Veterans suffering PTSD.
We help with Richmond Rotary
Markets every second Saturday of
the month in Windsor and
running the canteen at the
Hawkesbury District Show in
April.
Janette Kuipers hosted a dinner
with funds going to Prostate
Cancer. Lorna Clare has been
welcomed into the Club.
It’s a busy time with fund raising and having fun and
with more to come.
The Hills President: Maralyne Skeggs
As we approach the end of our Inner Wheel year, The
Hills Club continues to be busy with a mix of social
events and general meetings.
We held a BBQ at Bunnings on the 24th January
which turned out to be a hectic and rewarding day.
On Australia Day we held a relaxed, pleasant
luncheon at President Maralyne’s home, with many of
the members and their husbands dressed in ‘true blue’
colours and costumes.
Future events include a Coin for Cord Day at Castle
Towers shopping centre and our changeover on 6th
July.
President Ida.

West Harbour President: Lucile Clarke
We celebrated International Inner Wheel Day by
getting together for a week-end on the Central Coast.
A lovely French restaurant
dinner on Saturday evening
with partners, followed on
Sunday by an upmarket
Aussie BBQ, in the lovely

followed by a swim in their
pool - how more Aussie
could one get?
Food, Fun, and Inner Wheel
Friendship.
Albury President: Heather Elliot
We held our annual 'Card and Games Day' for Cord
Blood which was well attended by over 100
enthusiastic players, raising almost $2,000 for the
day.
A lot of work went into the event calling on many of
our members to roll up their sleeves.
Wagga Wagga President: Denyse Melton
2016 got off to a merry start with IIW Day breakfast
to celebrate. Members enjoyed the Friendship Day in
Albury and the Picnic Meeting at Leeton in March.
Our March Dinner Meeting was informal at a local
club where members played bowls after a B-B-Q tea.
Recent activities include
a 'Quilt Drive', craft days
for knitted rugs etc.,
Meals-on Wheels, Card
Parties, catering for
Rotary morning tea and
fund - raising for Cord
Blood Research by way
of a $500 gift voucher.
Yarrawonga Mulwala President: Bronwyn Lloyd
On the 16th February, Yarrawonga/Mulwala Club lost
a charter member, Patricia Ward.
In 2002, Pat began what is said to be her
greatest work. She gave a talk which led
to our District A54 fund raising for Cord
Blood Research. Later this became our
National Inner Wheel project.
The presentation of a
small booklet ‘The
Structure of Inner
Wheel’, containing a
c o m p r e h e n s i v e
outline of the order
of things at club level
was much talked
about at the District
Meeting.

The year started early with some of our members
enjoying the Inner Wheel Day at the Royal Botanical
Gardens.

members and
their partners.
With Inner
Wheel Club of
Wandin hosting
a Paris Chic/
Fascinator-themed event - much friendship, fun and
frivolities, as well as delightful eats, were enjoyed by
all at Friendship Day.
Our March meeting was a joint gathering with the
Rotary Cluster (Boronia, Bayswater, Ferntree Gully,
Knox and Rowville-Lysterfield) at St Paul’s Anglican
Church. The event was very ably catered by our own
Miriam Barrett and many willing helpers.
Bundoora President: Merle Maunder
Currently with 16 members we are one of the smaller
clubs in A61, but never-the-less our 21st Birthday was
lovely. Charter President Lorraine Pinkerton gave a
wonderful insight into our beginnings. Guests for the
occasion included IWA President Kay Morland and
IWA Secretary Anne Wettenhall.
Our current project is to provide a wheel chair friendly
BBQ and drinking fountain for the Bundoora Park. We
have raised the required $9,000 and are ready to go!!
Shepparton President: Noela Laws
International Day: Shepparton Members celebrating
with morning coffee.
Wandin President: Faith MacDonald
Member Betty Chapman was recognised as an Active
Honoured Member.
Maree Budweg received a Certificate of Recognition
from local member Tony Smith as ‘Jam Maker
Extraordinaire’, having made and sold over 2,000 jars
of jam to raise funds for Cord Blood Research. Our
Cord Blood stall raised just over $500. Now members
are busily dressing bears!
2016 started with a
‘Friendship Day in
Paris’ as DC Terina
fondly remembers
visiting Paris as a girl.
Dress for the occasion
was ‘Paris Chic’,
members and guess did
not disappoint. A lovely
lunch, a glass of vine
and the more energetic
preformed the Can Can.
Wangaratta President: Sharon Scalzo
The year started with a balmy social gathering at our
President’s home.
February was a regular club night and March an Italian
inspired evening to raise funds. The International
Committee had a lot of fun organising decorations,
competitions and prizes.
Members continue to support our local community
cook-up project.
Our President has not experienced the best of health
this year but retains her quirky sense of humour with
great support from her executive team.
Whorouly President: Glenys McNamara
A sewing day in January so preparation for kits for the
Days For Girls project. The fruits of our labours are
now on their way to East Timor.
February – a social night so ‘bring a plate’ and enjoy a
spot of table tennis or pool.
Our March meeting was held on National Oxfam day
so sitting around a cauldron, sharing a picnic basket
and listening to facts about the aboriginals of the area
in the 1880’s.

Wodonga President: Diana Thompson
Formal matters are a little daunting for some but
socialising, especially ‘wheelie’ (motorhomes and
caravans), trips are ‘right up our alley’. Tours of
National Trust properties such as Dow’s Pharmacy,
The Athenaeum Museum and Lake View House in
Chiltern proved popular.
In April, ‘Guess Who Is Coming to Lunch’ was
wonderful with guests lingering for a very long lunch.
DC visit in April with a ‘burnt orange theme’ typified
Autumn and was reflected with beautiful table
settings and members clothing in these colours.
