Cento in Latin means a “patchwork cloak”

Cento in music is a composition made of selections;a rigmarole.

Cento in poetry is a poem composed entirely of lines from other poems;

scraps.

Rigmarole is the “roll of the ragman”; a shape made of patches of cloth;

patchwork, rags;

fragments.

The masks and collages are forms of self portrait. They were pro-duced in The Humanities course at Southwest Georgia Technical College as a project that combined the concept of the Roman Death Mask with the idea of modernist fragmentation. The Cento Poems were produced as a poetic forms and docu-mentation assignment for English 1101 by students at the Grady Campus.
