Organiser and Independent Study

• Very important document students should have it with them every day.

• Ask to see it – signing – weekly if possible.

• Record lots of types of information in there.

• If lack of homework – follow up with tutor

• Independent Study is recorded in planners daily

Reports and Parents’ Evening

• Feel free to contact school at any time if you require information about progress.

• Settling In Evening mid October. Subject based Parents Evening later in the year.

• Reports and on going assessments are available throughout the year.

Attendance• If your child is absent phone school immediately with

a message or email attendance@arthurterry.bham.sch.uk

• Where possible notes or emails for medical appointments should be sent in prior to the appointment.

• ‘Absence Call’ – this happens every day. A phone call is made from school if your child is not present and the school is not notified.

Aspire Attend Achieve• Good attendance is essential if you want your child to do well. It is important

that your child attends regularly and on time.

• 90% attendance may sound good but in fact this equals half a day missed every week ! And over 1 school year this equates to 4 whole weeks of lessons missed….

• Get your child into the habit of coming to school every day, even if they are not feeling 100%.

• If there is something that is preventing your child from coming to school, speak to their Tutor or our Attendance Coordinator to let them know.

• Don’t take holidays in term time.

Lunch• Breaktime – have own Y7 Playground.

• Students must stay on the premises

• Students are expected to obey dinner supervisors. If not, they will NOT be allowed to use the canteen facilities

• Sandwiches or Canteen system operates - £3.00

• The preferred method of payment is via Parent pay (this saves students bringing cash or cheques). However cheques can be made payable to Chartwells.

• You will receive your ID and password for Parent Pay during the summer holidays. You can also use Parent Pay to pay for any trips etc (see information on our website)

Advantages of Biometric Finger Print System

• Saves the use of cash and bringing money every day.

• Parents know their money goes to purchasing lunch, and not in the local sweet shop.

• Parents can ask for a statement of their child’s purchases if they would like to know what they have eaten.

Uniform• Must wear correct Uniform in School. Shirts

tucked in.

• NO trainers, denim, ‘alternative’ jumpers.

• As girls grow up – short skirts start! Make-up, jewellery etc. Contact the school if you have any questions regarding uniform – check if children tell you:

a) Everyone else wears this! b) It’s OK

• Uniform Evening – Thursday 14th July – 4.30pm – 6.30pm in the Dining Hall

Organisation• Students will need help at first to pack their

bag each evening, packing only the items needed for the next day. Not everything! Be careful of the two week timetable!

• Many will also need help with homework.

• Check their Organiser for details of Independent Study, especially arrangements for giving it in.

Rewards/Discipline• At Arthur Terry we prefer to commend good

behaviour, effort and outstanding work.

• Reward systems include Praise Slips, Letters home, Success Breakfasts plus other rewards.

• Detentions – students will always receive 24 hours written notice. For a Faculty detention you will also receive a text message via the school office.

Lost Property

• Students have to carry a lot. To avoid carelessness, particularly with PE kit, labels are essential. All equipment should be clearly marked.

• Lost property enquiries should be made to the school Reception

Clubs and after school activities

• Plenty to choose from. (Details in September) and also on our website

• Students are encouraged to get involved with at least one activity.

Year 7 Trips/Events• From September there will be a live calendar on our

website which will keep you up to date with forthcoming events and trips.

• Aberdovey Trip 9th to 11th Dec – one of the most memorable and rewarding residential trips for Year 7.

• Cost approx £160. Great experience with the focus on team work.

• Students get an opportunity to camp out, canoe, gorge walk, rock climb and much more.

Year 7 Trips/Events

• Helps students to learn more about themselves and others and for them to see what they might really be able to achieve.

• Fantastic way to make new friends by working together on different challenges and activities.

• There will be other trips in Year and as soon as these are booked they will appear on our live calendar.

• Due to the novelty factor sometimes behaviour can be silly or even dangerous.

• Remind children to be careful and safe.

• Behaviour outside of school does reflect on the school’s public image.

Facebook – Online Socialising• Facebook and other such social networking sites are not

designed for children under 13 years of age.

• Ideally we would prefer your child to not be using such sites however we know that we cannot ban it.

• They can be a source of bullying and in the past we have had issues with them that are difficult to resolve and out of our control. We have recommended contacting the police on occasions, as cyber bullying is a prosecutable offence.

• If you allow your child to use such sites, we recommend you supervise them closely and make sure they are aware of the dangers and problems that they could encounter.
