This project was designed in the Challenge Based Learning format. I was lucky enough to be selected as 1 of 18 educators from across the country to work w/Karen Cator and the Apple Education team on the curriculum design side of the CBL framework.

To provide a collaborative learning experience between elementary and high school students, emphasizing a

variety of art, technology, and 21st Century skills.

It is more about the “Village” and the process vs. the product! About 100 Individuals!!!-working together collaboratively with a visual arts & technology focus was the foundation ***When I pitched it to my students they were VERY excited by the possibility of working with young students in the schools they attended.

Unicorns: As part of an all grade level wide writing contest for third graders

Tahquitz: Being written from multiple perspectives by GATE middle schoolers w/a visit to Tahquitz Canyon

*The story was selected by Mr. David Vogel, ex-President of Buena Vista Pictures.I worked with Taylor for several weeks storyboarding and breaking down multiple versions of the story to accommodate the age group. I honestly lost track of how many versions we wrote... luckily we had access to Acrobat.com so typing could occur in ‘the Cloud.’

After the story is revised, Di students visit Rio Vista 3rd graders to read the story & sketch the segments.

Sometimes elementary students are the tuffest audience! I’ve had kids up speaking in public before, but this time it was interesting to see them more nervous then when speaking to adults.

Communication was majorly important, listening to the kids and providing input for their sketches, while explaining to them what they needed to draw was challenging. My word was "Fear" and explaining what the word meant to them and how to draw it out on paper took a lot of thinking and brainstorming. It was fun listening to the kids and all their amazingly creative ideas.”

“The cross age collaboration is a brilliant teaching strategy in that it effectively benefits all parties involved. The elementary students are able to learn from their high school mentors, both in technique and with strategy for  approaching the project.  The high school students in turn, greatly increase in maturity and poise as they coach and advise the younger students.  They also have the privilege of seeing their work interpreted by professional artists, which is a career path many of them are heading towards.  The adult professionals so enjoy the opportunity to revisit their artistic past, and bring their current sophistication and experience to bear on the project.The fact of the matter is that all three groups of artists are producing artwork that is equally as valuable and viable…all that is different is their unique perspectives on the same piece of literature, and how they manifest that perspective into various mediums.”
