Practical Information
Season and Climate:
The Icelandic climate is warmer than the name suggests, thanks to the Gulf Stream. Summers in Iceland are rather cool, while the winters are rela-tively warm. The average monthly summer temperature ranges from 10 to 13 °C. During the summer the climate is mild but unstable with possible rain and frequent weather changes. The daily temperature can fluctuate from a minimum 5 °C at night to a maximum of 25 °C during the day.

Banks are open from 09:15 to 16:00. As general rule offices are open from 09:00 to 17:00, in some cases during the summer these hours are from 08:00 to 16:00. Shops are open from 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays. Kringlan and Smáralind shopping malls as well as souvenir and some bookshops in the city centre are open on weekends.
Credit cards
They are accepted by most shops, restaurants and organisations and are widely used. The major credit cards in Iceland are Visa and Eurocard, al-though other cards are accepted as well in some places.
Tax free shopping/tax refund
A refund of the local Value Added Tax is available to visitors to Iceland. The refund will result in a reduction of up to 15% of the retail price, provided departure from Iceland is within 30 days after the purchase is made. The purchased amount must be no less than ISK 6.000,- (VAT included) per sales receipt, and all goods (except woolen) must be packed in sealed bags or containers.
Insurance and health care
Please note that individual travel insurance is not included in the tour prices. It is therefore important that clients arrange for their own travel insur-ance before visiting Iceland. Medical assistance and health care are, however, readily available in Iceland.

Ammassalik
Ammassalik is the largest town in East Greenland with about 1,400 residents. It lies just south of the Arctic Circle and boasts long hours of daylight in the summer and the splendor of the northern lights in the winter.Ammassalik is only a 10-minute helicopter ride from Kulusuk, but this short flight is one of the most scenic expeditions imaginable as you cross the ice-filled sea separating these two mountainous islands. The town is beautifully situated in a protective fjord with high mountains on all sides. It is split in two by a river, which flows through the valley of flowers behind the town. This valley has a unique Arctic flora and is an ideal place for walks of all lengths
Hotel Angmagssalik is fully modernised, yet retains its friendly, informal style. The hotel has 40 rooms and a small conference and meeting center.

Ilulissat
Ilulissat is beautifully situated at the mouth of the 40-kilometre ice fjord filled with enor-mous icebergs produced by the most productive glacier in the northern hemisphere, the glacier Sermeq Kujalleq. It’sone of few glaciers within the Greenland ice cap which reaches the sea. Ilulissat is located on the west coast of Greenland, 250 km north of the Arctic Circle. 4,000 people live in Ilulissat and not less than 6,000 sled dogs. This is an eloquent statement of the importance of the dogsled as a means of transport, even in a large modern town. Regular boat trips are scheduled in the fjord, where you will sail between floating icebergs of all dimensions. Hiking trips and helicopter tours are also available. You can therefore easily admire huge icebergs up close that come loose from the glacier and crash into the sea
Hotel Arctic has 87 rooms and a new conference centre, can provide top-class rooms, decor, climate and AV-facilities for 120 participants. The heart of the conference centre is the assembly room, the Greenland Room, which can also be converted into a theatre or concert hall. In addition to the Greenland Room with its group rooms and meeting rooms, we also have a smaller assembly room with a number of meeting rooms.
