NOVEMBER 26, 2014 GRAND OPENING In the 19th-century, before modern supermarkets, the
general store was the primary means of trade and
commerce in rural communities. Here, farmers and
villagers purchased manufactured goods and food that
were not otherwise available – hardware and tools,
furnishings, textiles and clothing, medicines, groceries,
jewelry and candy. The general store also acted as a hub
for social activities.
