Deskan Medical Project

Project – Deskan Medical Mission

Deskan Institute and Training, Inc. – a non-profit organization in Atlanta, led by Guyanese – Dr. Joan Liverpool.

July 2012 trip marked the 10th Volunteer Medical and Training mission to Guyana .

The team consists of volunteer Nurses, Doctors, social workers, Educators and other volunteers.

2013 Mission trip planned for July 2013 and will be a combination of a Health Conference and medical clinics.

Deskan Medical Mission cont’d 2012 Mission Trip:

GMR arranged for a donation of medical supplies to Deskan from DRI for a total value of $327,664.

Deskan sponsored a medical conference that covered many of the diseases common in Guyana – Hypertension, diabetes, cancer, glaucoma, heart disease, etc.

Medical clinics were conducted and a special clinic session was held in Lethem.

2013 Mission Trip: Deskan will host their 2nd Global Health and

Wellness Conference starting July 24th

Three Days of Outreach Medical Clinics planned from August 2nd - August 5th, 2013

All activities will be held at Project Dawn Medical Conference and Training Center in Lillendaal, East Coast Demerara, Guyana,

LINDEN HOSPITAL – REGION 10

LINDEN HOSPITAL FUND COMMITTEE

A sub-committee of GMR dedicated to providing funds for the needs of the Linden Hospital.

Its principal fund raiser is a Guyanese Breakfast held annually in September in Atwater and featuring “Guyanese Bakes and Saltfish”.

2012/3 IN REVIEW LHFC is preparing to launch a program to assist

the medical clinics in the Linden/Wismar community.

Provided over $500,000.000 worth of medical supplies and equipment to the hospital.

Supplies and equipment shipped now reach the hospital at Kwakwani.

LHFC 2013/4 GOALS

To expand assistance to the Medical Clinics throughout the Greater Linden/ Wismar/ Christianburg Community, particularly those addressing women’s and children’s medical needs.

To support the Training needs of the Healthcare Providers in the Community.

BARTICA HOSPITAL FUND COMMITTEE

A sub-committee of GMR dedicated to providing funds for the needs of the Bartica Hospital.

Its principal fund raiser is a Sunday Brunch held annually in June/July – rotated among its members.

The Group’s major project, the VIA Clinic, was completed and opened last year.

To provide a physical therapy facility and expand the successful VIA Clinic, as needed, at the hospital.

To continue to support the Training needs of the Healthcare Providers in the Community.

To provide needed Medical equipment/Supplies where appropriate.
