We communicate through many channels: some formal, others less so. Graffiti exists on the fringes of society, the edgelands, the borders. It's the voice of the voiceless. It can be used to claim territory, to tell stories, or sometimes just for fun. In this short visual story, i explore twelve facets of graffiti, each one accompanied by a different piece of street art.

Transcript of Graffiti - a visual story - by Julian Stodd

Graffiti: the stories we tell

A voice when all other voices fall silent

Strong characters telling visual stories

Graffiti can claim territory, or just an idea

Sometimes it just makes you smile

Sometimes it feels like a plea

Or a comment on society

Graffiti references the mainstream

But sits outside it:

A language for the

edgelands.

The borders.

Naive?

Vibrant

Graffiti: stories freely shared, for us to create meaning

Thanks for following this visual story

• I write about learning, culture, leadership and society. .
