Principles and practice:

This S1 project encompasses most of the principles and practice for History.

Experiences and outcomes covered:

I can use my knowledge of a historical period to interpret the evidence and present an informed view.SOC 3-01a

I can make links between my current and previous studies, and show my understanding of how people and events have contributed to the development of the Scottish nation.SOC 3-02a

I can explain why a group of people from beyond Scotland settled here in the past and discuss the impact they have had on the life and culture of Scotland. SOC 3-03a

Experiences and outcomes covered:

I can describe the factors contributing to a major social, political or economic change in the past and can assess the impact on people’s lives. SOC 3-05a

I can discuss the motives of those involved in a significant turning point in the past and assess the consequences it had then and since. SOC 3-06a

Challenge Outline - Group activityClass will produce an active timeline of

Scottish history. I

Each group will argue that their time period made the greatest contribution to Scotland.

Method:

Each group can select their own method of

presenting their case to the class.

Presentations have included:

•Role play•Power point presentation•Models and puppet theatres•Booklets•Posters•Narratives based around a central character•A focus on famous people from the period.

Group Work:

Groups of 4Everyone has a role:•Leader•Time keeper - On task•Noise monitor•Quality control.

Planning:

The group works on a mind map to set out their knowledge base and to plan what they want to find out about.

Tasking:

The group leader assigns tasks to each member of the group and annotates this on the mind map.

Resources:

Pupils are given one topic box and one computer per group.

Time Allocation:

We allocated 6 weeks for the project – including presentations and quiz.

Note Taking:

During each of the presentations groups are expected to take notes to be able to

compete in a knowledge quiz at

the end of the presentations.

Knowledge Quiz

Questions made up from the presentations are asked by the teacher in rounds. Groups compete to win a cup.
