Approx. 1.5 million Armenians killed by Turks in the Ottoman Empire (modern day Turkey)
1915-1918, during WWI and then again from 1920-1923
Targeted due to religious differences, blamed for misfortunes
Labeled 2nd class citizens, property burned, raped, mass killings

Bosnian Genocide
• 1992 to 1995, extreme nationalism and “ethnic cleansing” led to genocide in the nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in eastern Europe
• Estimated loss of life between 96,000 to 200,000 people
• Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks soldiers used rape, torture and forced displacement, mass killing
• Srebrenica massacre of July 1995, one of the largest killings, 7,500 men and boys killed
Cambodia Genocide
• Took place in country of Cambodia, located in southern Asia
• Khmer Rouge took control of the Cambodian government in 1975, Communist gov’t
• In 4 yrs, around 2 million Cambodians died in the Khmer Rouge’s ‘Killing Fields’
• Targeted political dissidents, the weak and intelligent

Rwandan Genocide
April 6, 1944 Rwandan President was killed when his plane was shot down, this led to uprising of rebel Hutu groups
Took place in Rwanda, country located in central Africa
Massacre lasted 100 days- 1994
Extremist Hutu groups used radios to direct the torture, rape and killing of over 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutus people
Darfur Genocide
• Occuring since 2003, in the country of Sudan and still taking place
• 200,000 people have been killed
• 2.7 million are displaced refugees
• Janjaweed militias destroy Darfur villages by bombing and burning, looting economic resources, and murdering, raping, and torturing non-combatant civilians
