GOOD NEWSActs r3:r4, 43=52 | fuv 7:9, 1,4bFr7 | tn rc=z7no
One of the first things parents of a newborn learn is how incredibly strongtheir baby's grip is. Our daughter, like most newboms, clenched onto herfather's and my fingers immediately after birth-and she wouldn't let go!We called it her death grip. Yes, it's a reflex, but it's one that reaches intoyour soul. You realize quickly what a hold this person has on you-physicallyand emotionally. On this Good Shepherd Sunday, Jesus speaks in the Gospel about not lettinganyone take his flock out of his hand. His hold on us is even tighter than anewborn's, but it's certainly not a death grip. Ouite the opposite-it's a lifegrip. No matter how far we scatteror how wide a path we walk, Jesus always has us in his hands. He offers us
life abundant here on earth and life eternal in heaven.Parents of newborns have such an emotional response to their child's gripbecause they've spent so much tirne with this child-feeling her movementsin utero, seeing his picture in ultrasounds, preparing their lives for this newbeing. There's an intimate connectionSheep respond loyally to their shepherd's voice because they spend so muchtime together in the fields. The same must be true for our relationship with our Good Shepherd. Unless
we're cotrnmitted to spending significant time with him, we can't expect tobenefit from his life grip. He always holds us, but we need to offer him thatsame devoted attention and intimacy.Where can we find more time ln our week to behold-and be held by*ourGod?

d e ar PAD Rf,
I agree with your response to tlu questbn dbout discri, rnination
against Catlnlirs. But don't we discriminate dgdinst otlerClristiarx whm we don't celebrate the Euclwris with tharn?
You have to keep the Church's intentions in mind:Are we excluding to make people feel left out, or are weexcluding to uphold the dignity and sanctity of theEucharist?
Everyone is welcome to celebrate the Eucharist-there's only one paft they can't par[icipate in. Thatmight sound like a cop-out, but Catholics believe thatthe Eucharist is the actual Body and Blood of Christ. For it to be tme communion, everyone who receives itmust believe the same thing about it.
In its Guidelircs -fo, tl" Rercptian of Communion, theUnited States Conference of Catholic Bishops says,*Because Catholics believe that the celebration of theEucharist is a sign of...the oneness of faith, life, andworship, members of those churches with whom weare not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted toHoly Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptionalcircumsances by other Christians requires permission"as outlined in "canon law...-All who are not receivingHoly Communion are encouraged to express in theirhearts a prayer l desire for unity with the Lord Jesusand with one another."

Why evangelize?...
In his homily on April L7,20L3 Pope Francis called each of us
to evangelize. AII of the baptized must "announce fesus withour life, with our witness and with our words," the pope said.
."When we do this, the church becomes a mother churchthat bears children," he said.
