Psalm 29

THIS IS MY FATHER’S WORLDHE SHINES IN ALL THAT’S FAIRIN THE RUSTLING GRASS I HEAR HIM PASSHE SPEAKS TO ME EVERYWHERE

WE HEAR 50% OF WHAT IS SAIDWE UNDERSTAND 50% OF WHAT WE HEAR

WE BELIEVE 50% OF WHAT WE UNDERSTANDWE REMEMBER 50% OF WHAT WE BELIEVE

I KNOW YOU BELIEVE YOU UNDERSTANDWHAT YOU THINK I SAID, BUT YOU DON’TREALIZE THAT WHAT YOU HEARD IS NOT WHAT I MEANT!

PSALM 29TEACHES US HOW TO LISTEN TO GOD

THE PSALM IS ADDRESSED TO SONS

“ASCRIBE TO THE LORD, O SONS….” VS. 1

WE BECOME SONS OF GOD BY FAITH BELIEVING IN THE NAME OF JESUS!

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name.” Jn. 1:12

“For you are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ…” Galatians 3:26

As sons of God, we are to honor Him!

“Give (ascribe) to the Lord glory… the

glory that is due to His name.” Ps. 29:2

Psalm 29:3…“The VOICE OF THE LORD is upon the waters; The God of glory thunders, The Lord is over many waters. The VOICE OF THE LORD is powerful, the VOICE OF THE LORD is majestic. The VOICE OF THE LORD breaks the cedars; Yes, the VOICE OF THE LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. And He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.

“The VOICE OF THE LORD hews out flames of fire. The VOICE OF THE LORD shakes the wilderness; The Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The VOICE OF THE LORD makes the deer to calve, and strips the forests bare…” Psalm 29:3-9

I. GOD IS A GOD WHO SPEAKSPS. 29: “THE VOICE OF THE LORD…”

(VS. 3,4,5,7,8,9)

A. WHEN GOD SPEAKS HIS WORDS ARE POWERFUL!

“The voice of the Lord is upon the waters. The God of glory THUNDERS… The voice of the Lord is powerful.” Ps. 29:3,4

“By the Word of the Lord the heavens were made.” Ps. 33:6

Praise Him sun, moon and stars and highest heavens… For He commanded and they were created.” Ps. 148:5

B. WHEN GOD SPEAKS, HIS WORD IS PERSONAL!

“For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Heb. 4:12

C. WHEN GOD SPEAKS, HIS WORD IS PRACTICAL!

“All of God’s words are inspired by God and profitable for:

teaching me truthconfronting my wrongscorrecting my mistakestraining me to serve”

II Tim. 3:16

II. GOD SPEAKS, AND HE WANTS ME TO LISTEN!

“AND IN HIS TEMPLE, EVERYTHING SAYS, ‘GLORY!’ Yes, the Lord sits asKing forever.” Ps. 29:9,10

WHEN GOD SPEAKS, ALL OF CREATION RESPONDS!

“THE VOICE OF THE LORD….BREAKS THE CEDARS VS. 5MAKES MOUNTAINS SKIP VS. 6SHAKES THE WILDERNESS VS. 8MAKES THE DEER TO CALVE VS. 9

“TODAY, IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE,DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS.”

Heb. 3:5

HOW DOES GOD SPEAK TO US TODAY?

GOD SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS WORD BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT!

III. WHAT HAPPENS IN MY LIFE WHEN I LISTEN TO GOD?

1. MY SOUL IS RESTORED“The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring

the soul.” Ps. 19:7

2. I HAVE NEEDED WISDOM FOR THE MOMENT“The testimony of the Lord is sure, making

wise the simple.” Ps. 19:7

3. I HAVE JOY IN MY HEART AND LIFE “The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart.” Ps. 19:8

4. I HAVE INSIGHT INTO LIFE“The commandment of the Lord is pure,

enlightening the eyes.” Ps. 19:8

5. I HAVE WARNING FOR THE DANGERS AHEAD

“Moreover, by them is thy servant warned.” Ps. 19:11

6. I AM REWARDED FOR MY OBEDIENCE“In keeping of them there is great reward.”Ps. 19:11

TRUTH TO LIVE BY

1. GOD CARES SO MUCH ABOUT YOU AS HIS CHILD, THAT HE PERSONALLY SPEAKS TRUTH INTO YOUR LIFE.

TRUTH TO LIVE BY2. WHAT GOD HAS TO SAY TO YOU PERSONALLY, IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE YOU WILL EVER HEAR IN YOUR LIFE.

TRUTH TO LIVE BY3. LISTENING TO WHAT GOD HAS TO SAY

TO YOU AND GIVING HEED TO HIS WORDS, WILL BRING BLESSING AND REWARD TO YOUR LIFE

- WHILE -

REFUSING TO LISTEN WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE DIFFICULT AND HARD

4. FOLLOWING AFTER GOD IN YOUR LIFE BEGINS BY LISTENING TO WHAT HE HAS TO SAY AND THEN DOING WHAT HE SAYS TO DO!
