Extension Program Highlights Hands-OnClinicalTrainingwithTCMandWesternMastersTheFiveBranchesExtensionProgramdirectlyimmersesstudentsatalllevelsoftraininginhands-onclinicalwork.TheAsianBodyworkClinicianlevelofcertificationoffersthehighestlevelofclinicalbodyworktrainingavailable.BothTCMandWesternfacultyhelpstudentsintegratebothEasternandWesternapproachestothebodyintoasuccessfulsystemofbodyworkandQigongforthepromotionofoptimalhealthcare.
IntegrationbetweenTraditionalAsianandWesternMedicalTheoryTheinstructorsintheExtensionProgramareexperiencedinbothtraditionalAsianmedicaltheoryandWesternanatomyandphysiology.Studentshaveauniqueandexceptionalopportunitytolearnhowthesystemsworktogetherasone,andintegratethesesystemsintothedevelopmentoftheirownpersonalstyleoftherapy.Ancientphilosophyandenergymedicinehaveanincreasinglyrecognizedscientificbasis.TheFiveBranches’ExtensionProgramintegratesChineseandWesternanatomyandphysiologyincoursessuchasOrthopedicTuina,InternalOrgansandPointsDescription,andAppliedKinesiologycourses.
DevelopmentofSelf-CareandProfessionalGrowthSkillsFiveBranchesstrivestocreateaplacewhereeveryonecangrow.OurbranchesofAsianBodyworkandQigonghavebeenrootedforthousandsofyearsinChina,Japan,andThailand.Today,thesebranchesextendintoourcommunityandofferacoolingshadetoahecticlife.Ourgoalistohelpstudentscultivateinternalawarenesswithpracticalbodyworkskillsthatfacilitatehealing,growthandtransformation.Wemaintainasupportiveenvironmentwherestudentscanlearntheessentiallifeskillsthathelpfuelvitalenergyandhealth.
DevelopmentofInternalAwarenesswithQigongPracticeTheChineseviewoflifeisbasedontheprinciplesofharmonyandbalance.Chinesemedicineanditstheoryprovidesadeeplookintothehumanbody.ThefundamentalprincipleofthisperspectiveisthenotionofQi,themiraculouslifeenergythatanimatesalllivingthings.ThewayQiflowsthroughenergeticchannelsdefinesthestateofhealthwithinthebody.ThepracticeofQigongplaysanimportantroleinallofourbodyworkprograms.Qigongempowersstudentstopracticeenergeticformsoftherapy.WeencouragestudentstoexplorethecultivationofQiandtoenhancetheirsensitivityofenergyforinternalbalanceandhealing..

HistoryofFiveBranchesUniversityFiveBranchesUniversitywasfoundedonanauspiciousday:February4,1984,onChineseNewYearintheYearoftheMouse,atthebeginningofa60-yearcycle.Wehadoneclassroom,aclinicwiththreetreatmentrooms,fiveteachers,18dedicatedstudents,onepatientaday,andonetypewriter.Todaywehavetwocampuses,14classrooms,38treatmentrooms,200teachers,450dedicatedstudents,1500alumni,andwesee160patientsaday.Wehavegrown.
Fromthebeginning,itwasourintentiontoinviteTraditionalChineseMedicinepractitionerstotheWest,toteachandtransmittheirpreciousknowledgeofChinesemedicineandtosharetheirsubtleyetpowerfulwaysofpracticingmedicine.ThehistoryofFiveBranchesbeganwhenseveraloftheseextraordinaryyethumblepractitionersofTCMacceptedourinvitation.Theessenceofoursuccesshasbeenthequalityanddedicationofourfaculty/practitioners.JeffreyPang,L.Ac.,JoannaZhao,L.Ac.,andLucyHu,L.Ac.,havebeenwithusforover30years.Today,ourfacultynumberover200distinguishedmembers.Themostmeaningfuleventsofourhistory,however,arethememoriesofthehugandwarmsmileapatientgivesoneofourfacultymemberswhentheymeetoutsidetheclinic,thepractitionerwhoshareshowChinesemedicinesavedtheirpatient’slife,andtheheartfeltgratitudeexpressedbyagraduateattheirgraduationforthegiftsreceivedfromfacultyduringtheirtimeofstudyandtrainingatFiveBranches.
Itisourcomprehensiveacademicprograms,thequalityofteachinginboththeclassroomandclinicandthedeepandsincerededicationoffaculty,staffandstudentsthathavecontributedsignificantlytothetransmissionofthisincrediblemedicineintoourcommunitiesandthroughouttheWest.
