- 1. NHS FOREST
- The NHS Forest, coordinated by the Campaign for Greener
Healthcare, inspires healthcare organisations and local communities
to make the link between health and the environment by
- Improving peoples health through green space
- Reducing the NHS carbon footprint
- Creating a positive, physical opening for discussions on wider
sustainability ( our Green Trojan Horse!)

- How does your innovation reduce carbon emissions?
- Healing environments: Patients recuperate quicker; staff and
community stay healthier
- 1.3 million trees will cut the NHS carbon footprint
- The project can engage people with carbon reduction ideas
- eg green routes -> green travel
- Improves wellbeing for patients, staff and local community
- Encourages other greening initiatives eg cycle paths, easy
pedestrian access, Green Gym
- Local jobs and volunteer groups created
- 4. Measures of success
- 2000 trees already in the ground at 20 sites (varies from 1 800
trees) with plans for 50 sites this year
- Over 30 partners engaged in national project with delivery
agreements in place
- Positive feedback from partners (our nicest project, easy to
sell)
- and from community participants in planting days
- The children had a fantastic time and want to do it every
week.

to plant trees to make a forest for the environment I had a
brilliant time

- What would most help your project to develop and grow?
- Secure five year funding so we can plan resources
- Help with networking and sharing ideas
- What are the biggest challenges or questions for your
project?
- Funding!! Weve secured some, but need lots more
- Marketing & communicating the project to the NHS
- Linking up and sharing the idea wider
