Michael Faraday Born September 22, 1791 English chemist and

physicist Studied the magnetic field

around a conductor carrying a DC electric current

Established the basis for the electromagnetic field concept in physics

His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of electric motor technology

Making electricity become viable for use in technology

Faraday’s Law of Induction

Faraday’s Law states that the electromotive force is directly proportional to the time rate of change of the magnetic flux through a loop:

Є = - dФB/dt where ФB = ∫ B. dA

Magnetic Flux

Magnetic Flux is a measure of quantity of magnetism, taking into account the strength and extent of a magnetic field:

ФB = ∫ B. da ФB = BAcosθ

Electric Motor

An electric motor is a motor that uses electrical energy to produce mechanical energy, usually through the interaction of magnetic fields and current-carrying conductors.

Electric Motor as Electric Generator

A DC motor can be used as a DC generator. Using mechanical energy to rotate the coil inside the motor at uniform angular velocity in a magnetic field, it will produce an electromotive force which is measured in Volts

Due to this resulting voltage, the light bulb emits light and the fan rotates
