EACH MA-TERIAL HAS IT’S OWN QUALI-TIES AND WAS PICKED TO FILL THE NEEDS OF THE RESPECTIVE OWNER. RABBIT FUR E.G. WAS CHOSEN TO BRING WARMTH TO THE BRAVE GIRL THAT STAYED ALONE IN THE WOODS FOR MORE THAN TWO NIGHTS WHILE IT WAS RAINING.«

I made a stone mark on Lem-moltunturi, the high-est point we reached during our expedition behind the polar circle. The spiral as a symbol of unity stands for the way of internalisa-tion and medi-tation.

42»THAT ONE DAY WE INVENTED THE RITUAL WITH THE HOT STONES. I GOT THEM OUT OF THE LAKE AND HEATED THEM ON THE STOVE FOR A WHILE. WHOEVER CAME TO THE SHAMAN HUT THEN, COULD EXPERIENCE ONE HOUR OF TOTALLY BEING SPACED OUT, LYING IN A SLEEPING BACK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, WATCHING THE KEIMIÖJÄRVI AND FEELING THE HEAT OF THE STONES ON HIS OR HER BACK.«

Deer antler with talismans that I made during the expe-dition. One stayed on Keimiö-tunturi and another one was lost so I reproduced them for the exhibition.
Old frames with prints of a series of nature shots that I did with an analogue small format camera. I had some problems with a wide-angle lens and so most of my pho-tographs are blurry at the edges. Because of that the viewer gets a good sense of my perspective as the shaman.
Tools and materials that I used to produce the talis-mans, like nail scissors, a small tin can with beads and thread, fur and hair as well as materials that I found in the nature. I also showed three stones out of the Keimiöjärvi that I used for the hot stones ritual and special sauna löyly (a herbal brew) made from young birch buds. Everyting was collected in a typecase that I placed on a small antique table.
