UMW News "Sisterhood of Grace" By Denise Eastin
In September UMW members gathered for our general meeting in which we nominated and elected UMW officers for 2020. A big Thank You goes out to all who served in the past year as well as welcomed the newly elected/re-elected for next year. A complete list of the names and offices will be listed in the November newsletter. Mary Schradick's program for the evening was entitled "Women Rising Up for Human Dignity and Rights". It focused on Rizpah, a woman of the Old Testament, a concubine of King Saul’s, who, when her two sons were killed, held vigil over their remains. She put her trust in God and did not leave. She stayed even when her life was full of overwhelming hardship and her own future uncertain. Janice Walter was honored with the title of “Jewel of a Woman” at the District meeting at Fargo First UMC on September 21st. Thank you, Janice, for all your good works on behalf of UMW and Evergreen UMC. An Executive meeting to plan and schedule programs and events for 2020 will be held November 7th at 9am. The next general meeting of UMW will be Thursday, November 14th, at 1pm. Fern Bailey will present the program “Sharing Your Bounty”. Installation of 2020 UMW officers will take place. Hope Circle will offer refreshments. The countdown to Bazaar 2019 is on! It’s Saturday, October 19th from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Please add your name to the lists of ‘Items Needed’ and ‘Volunteers Needed’ in the narthex. This yearly fundraiser is our opportunity/challenge to raise money for our UMW Mission Pledge ($3200) plus add to the General Fund of Evergreen UMC. We have a blessed reputation of offering a welcoming atmosphere to the Community for a pleasant afternoon of dining, fellowship, and shopping. This will be our second year of offering a luncheon of Homemade Soup and Sandwich, along with Pie and Beverage. One change though, instead of a cold sandwich, we will offer a hot BBQ on a bun. Our Grandma’s Pantry is always successful, along with our homemade canned jams, jellies, candies, breads, cookies, etc. We welcome all of your efforts. It’s been noted that perhaps 80% of your tasty creations are scooped up in the first 20 minutes of Bazaar! We are very much looking forward to Donuts again this year. To participate in donut making, sign up in the narthex. You can be assured of having fun creating, and bagging the mouth-watering delights that draw so many people to our Bazaar. There will be Sewn Creations and Crafts for sale. Also, we’ll turn one room into Grandma’s Attic, selling gently used decorative and household items. Please limit your donations to 6 items or less. Donations will be sold on a Free Will Offering basis. All of us, working together, are needed to make the Bazaar a success. Please keep the Bazaar in your prayers. Thank You!

MISSIONS NEWS
OCTOBER - 2019
By Jan Moore
For the Back Pack Program, during October, we are asked to donate
16 oz. JARS OF PEANUT BUTTER
Look for totes in the Fellowship Hall for your donation. During the month of September we donated: 40 juice boxes; 24 applesauce cups; 9 jars of peanut butter and 192 Go-Go Squeeze Pouches. Also food and assorted hygiene items were donated to the Richland-Wilkin Food Pantry. Thank you to all for your generous donations. Our Sunday of Service, August 25, 2019 was highly successful. The congregation members from young to old were involved in several mission projects. One of those projects was Hygiene Kit assembly, 196 Kits were boxed up this past month and delivered!! Thank You to everyone for their participation of valuable time and in donation of items.
The only ones among you who will be truly happy are those who have sought
and found how to serve.
Our sympathy to Wayne & Dianne Millar on the
September 12 death of Wayne’s mother, Eileen
Miller, of Wahalla, ND.
Our sympathy to Jessica & Jim Harty and family
on the September 16 death of Jessica’s father,
Jim Pedersen, of Foxhome, MN.
Our sympathy to Jean & Merle Rubish on the death of Jean’s younger brother, Michael West.
Youth Our youth are off to a great start this year! Most weeks there have been 9 youth from 4 different school districts… and we would love to welcome even more! We meet in Zion Chapel from 6:30-8pm on Wednesdays, and we would LOVE to have any 7-12 graders join us! In addition to our Wednesday gatherings, we do have a few special events coming up. 1 — Valley Scare/Feed My Starving Children with Bethel Lutheran Church on October 26. 2 — DAKYouth — November 8-10, Aberdeen, SD. This is an annual youth event/gathering with United Methodist youth from across North and South Dakota. We will depart after school on Friday and return after lunch on Sunday. It is a weekend of engaging speakers, workshops, inspiring worship, and fun entertainment for all to enjoy. Our theme this year is “Recharge.” Those who went last year can’t wait to return — and we’d love to have you join us! The registration deadline for both events in October 19, so get those forms in soon! You can contact Pastor Jen for more information.

UMW Annual Meeting - Pierre, SD
Fall Bazaar 2019 Saturday, October 19th 10:30 am - 1:30 pm
Workers Wanted - Food Wanted Shoppers Wanted
October is here already! Such an exciting month this will be, highlighted with our fabulous Fall Bazaar. We all look forward to welcoming the Community into our church for an afternoon of dining, shopping, and fellowship. You are all encouraged -- men, women, and teens alike, to participate and take pleasure in practicing the hospitality that will make our Bazaar Day a successful all-church event.
This is our second year to offer a Soup and Sandwich, along with pie and beverage for $8. (Children 12 and under $4). Choice of 'from scratch' soups are: Beef Vegetable or Chicken Wild Rice. Our only change is to offer a hot sandwich in the form of BBQ on a bun rather than a choice of cold sandwiches.
Sign Up sheets for Food Items needed, Pies needed, and Bazaar Workers needed will be posted in the church narthex. As this year some items will be purchased, UMW is welcoming Monetary Donations to defray costs. Please add your name to these lists. Donated non-perishable grocery items should be delivered to church by Sunday the 13th. Baked pies for the luncheon should be delivered by Saturday morning, the 19th. We would like your baked and canned goods and any fresh produce for Grandma's Pantry by Thursday, the 17th or Friday, the 18th. Please be sure to label the contents of your delicious treats. If you wish to suggest a price, please attach a sticky note or tape a note to your donations.
Help is needed for Donut making and bagging. A sign up sheet will be posted in the Narthex. Donuts have always been popular at our Bazaar and a big seller, with profits going directly into the General Fund of the church.
Items you'd like to donate to Grandma's Attic (no clothes, please) can be brought in starting October 13th to the south facing classroom. We ask that you limit your donations to 6 items or less. Donations will be sold on a Free-Will basis. If you have questions about donations to Grandma's Attic or questions about the Bazaar in general, please contact Fern Bailey.
Please have all sewn or crafted donations to the church by Tuesday, the 15th, if possible. Please feel free to attach a 'suggested price' to your creations. We're anxious to see your handiwork!
Our Fall Bazaar benefits many mission projects around the world as well as right here in our community. We hope that you will include the Bazaar in your prayers.
Our flyers are ready for distribution and can be picked up at the church. Please think about where you might personally post a flyer ... at work, your apartment building, your bank, area stores, the laundromats, etc. Advertising gets results! Most businesses have been more than gracious in allowing us to place a flyer on a wall or bulleting board. And don't forget to tell your friends, neighbors, and relatives about the Bazaar.
Thank you for all your help!

Imagine. When is the last time you let your imagination get away from you? I don’t mean in those ways it can get the worst of us, such as when fear gets ahold of us and we imagine the worst of a situation. When is the last time you allowed yourself to imagine with hope and generosity and abundance? That’s just what we are going to do here at Evergreen in the month of October. During the first week, we will wrap up our sermon series on living as “Devoted Disciples” as we talk about how God is pouring in to every part of our lives with more imagination than we can begin to comprehend. Then, on October 13, we are going to being our new series, “Imagine.” Together over these three weeks, we are going to explore how our lives might be different if we were to imagine ourselves with Jesus on the mountainside. Using Matthew 14:13-21 as our guiding scripture and focus, we are going to imagine being on that mountainside with Jesus and his followers. When they were hungry, what seemed like limited resources became more than enough. Can you imagine? Can you imagine what it might have been like to follow Jesus to “a deserted place” (Matthew 14:13) for his healing power and love? Can you imagine bringing a loved one who is ill? Or maybe you have your own burdens, or illnesses, or additions, or shame, or aching heart… and you are longing to draw closer to this man named Jesus, and so you set out for that deserted place. Before you know what’s happening, you realize there are thousands of people heading in the same direction. You are all connected in your yearning… your longing… to be closer to Jesus. To encounter healing and wholeness, though Jesus. Can you imagine it? What would you hope to experience in this encounter with Jesus? Even amidst Jesus’ own grief he was experiencing at this time, Jesus sees those who draw near, and he welcomes them. He sees you — and treats your needs as holy. Jesus has compassion upon the sick, and the helpless… and he sees this work, as holy.
What do you need to call upon Jesus for? Are you bold enough to imagine all that Jesus longs to do in our lives and our community, if we trust in him? Together this October, we are going to imagine God’s limitless possibilities together. I hope you’ll join us. With Abundant Hope, Pastor Jen
