A good start to this year’s league with a win over Sars, The

great order for this time of the year. Kieran Murphy opened for
Erins Own with a point from play, Mossie Carroll followed with
another Hero pointed again with Sean Kelly, Jack Sheehan &
Andrew Power all adding points & the on form Mark Collins put
two over from frees giving Erins Own a lead at half time of 3
points, 0-08 to 0-05, Sars came out in the second fired up &
quickly took the lead with a goal & two points, Mark Collins
continued to put them over with a further five points, one from
play & four from frees, Sars always looked dangerous but the

RedFM Senior Hurling League Erins Own 1-13 Midleton 2-14
The sun was shining this afternoon for the first game of the year in
Caherlag, the pitch had been sanded & spiked two weeks prior to this
game & the rain had stayed away for the last few days so the ground
was as good as you were going to get for this time of the year, Midleton
were the visitors today for this senior hurling league clash and were
without the services of their inter county players, Erins own were also
not at full strength with Cathal O Mahony, Jack Sheehan, Mark Collins &
Andrew Power all away & Alan Bowen, Kieran Murphy, Cian O
Callaghan & Cian O Connor all out injured, Stephen Horgan opened the
scoring for Erins Own with a free from the 45 yard line, he also added
another two points before the break one from play & another from a
free, Midleton always looked sharp upfront & were toting up some fine
points, Sean Kelly, Colm Coakley, added a pont each, James Carroll in
good form today added two points from play & Mossie Carroll scored a
goal & a point before half time, Midleton were still in front by a goal at
half time, 2-08 to 1-08, Dara Twomey open the Scoring in the second
half for Erins Own with a fine point from play, Eoghan Murphy who had
came on at half time quickly put three over the bar from frees, James O
Carroll hit another point from play, but that was it for Erins Own two
points from play in the second half & despite an outstanding
performance from Man of the match Shane Murphy at centre back it still
wasn’t enough to hold of Midleton who claimed this win by a goal and a
point Shane Murphy, Cormac Dooley, Sean Kelly, Kilian Murphy &
James O Carroll played well.

IN MEMORY OF MR PAT
FOLEY
JUVENILE SECTION
HONOURY PRESIDENT
It is only fitting that we take time
to remember Mr Pat Foley, like us
all we are different things to
different people, fathers,
husbands, brothers indeed Pat
was also a radio celebrity through
his work in Cork Marts, but to us
here in Erin’s Own Pat Foley is
best remembered for being
instrumental indeed a driving
force to developing what is now
our home here in Caherlag.
His contribution is best
summarised from the Mr Paddy
Twomey book “From an Acorn to
an Oak” since 1965 Erins Own had
been seeking a permanent home
but it was not until 1977, twelve
years later when Pat secured 6
acres from Jerry Lucey for
£25,000. Pat went on to chair the
sub-committee which secured the
land and developed these 6 acres
and on a Sunday in May 1982 and
£15,000 later our main pitch and
2 dressing rooms were ready to
use. In 1983 Pat accompanied by
Dan Cahalane were tasked with
going about securing a further 6
acres from Mr Lucey which are
now our side and top pitches.
These now represent our
permanent residents to which
further plans are in progress.
For us like all homes it is now up
to us to ensure that our home
here in Caherlag is a sanctuary for
all who enter it.

COURSES SECTION
DEVELOPING OUR COACHES
INTERNAL SKILLS WORKSHOP –
This was a practical session very
kindly prepared and facilitated
by our most experienced

tips on how to best approach
and develop player skill
development.
FOUNDATION COURSE – This is

JUVENILE CHAIRMAN BRIAN O’SHEA UPDATE
Welcome
Firstly I wish to extend welcome to all our players and parents and
wish to invite any person interested in helping out this year in any
small way please feel to let us know as the more
Since the AGM in November we have been joined by Mark Hoare as
Registrar and Peter Kelly as our Coaching Officer, and for both
December and January we have been busy planning our 2016.
This year will be following 2 simple principles in how we will be
approaching everything we do in our Juvenile Section
1. Erins Own must always be fun place for coaches, player and
parents
2. We approach our training to ensure we develop the players
to the best of their abilities
Since the start of the year we have planned and held various
development courses to add to our coaching knowledge as these
are the very people who give of their time and who will be
developing the players, plus we will be introducing various new
initiatives to further develop players across all ages in the club. More
details of these are contained in this newsletter.
Finally to ensure our players enjoy their time in Erins Own please
feel free to approach me or any of the coaches in Erins Own should
you have an issue you wish to discuss so we can help resolve, as
early intervention is essential to ensuring your child has a positive
experience.

DEVELOPING OUR PLAYER
This year all our focus is
on player development as
these are the guys that will
be our Senior players in
the future.
In January both under
13/14 & u 15/16 retuned to
training and it was great to
see their enthusiasm so
much so that on a
miserable Saturday
morning in St Vincent’s
Erins Own had 11 u15/16
out of 30 players attend a
Cork Regional
Development squad
session and while
conditions was poor feed
back from Cork
Development Officers was
excellent.
We also had 19 u13 attend
a Cork Development squad
session on 19th February
again we have received
hugely positive an
encouraging feedback on
our players and the players
also enjoyed the
experience.
This strong attendance by
these players is evidence
that we have players with
great interest in developing
further as players and we
must support them in their
development.
Easter (Teen) Camps – In addition to the normal Easter Camp ,
one of the initiatives this year is to host a specific course designed
for our teenage players coordinated by Niall McIntyre our Schools
Coach and Peter Kelly our Coaching Officer and follows the format
designed for Cork development squads with Peters unique
knowledge from his intercounty experience. The cost will be
€20/day and will be held on Wed 30th and Thur 31st from 10:0-
2:00.
Finally we will be in hosting a Parish League for our u7&8 in
memory of our recently deceased Honoury President Mr Pat Foley
and we plan to make this real occasions for the kids to enjoy
Members who completed the foundation course in Caherlag this year
Partnership with COPE Foundation
This year we have been most fortunate to be able to avail of the fantastic
facilities in Cope, which includes both All-weather pitch and hurling wall.
Since the start of January both our u13/14 and u15/16 squads are
availing of these facilities and will continue to do so while out pitches
remain out of service due to the weather.
In turn for making these superb facilities available these squads (and
their parents) are raising funds to donate to Cope through their
donations for the use of the facilities and other fund raising initiatives but
the players will also be volunteering at Cope for a couple of hour
through-out the year.
This contribution by both players and parents is an initiative and these
players deserve great credit for their efforts as the service Cope
foundation provide is truly remarkable.
There moto is something we as a club must aspire to achieve.

ERINS OWN CAMOGIE :
Erin’s own camogie season has kicked of big time. With our
numbers growing each year it shows the commitment of all the
girls and coaches. This year so far as in every other parishes
around our fields have taken a battering with bad weather as a
result of this all teams have opted for various types of training eg
running the roads, using the local gyms.
U10s Camogie has been using the hall in Erin’s own thanks to ken

will soon move outdoors they will train on Saturdays morning

U14
On a sunny and dry Sunday
morning we travelled to Fermoy
to play the U14A team. It was
our first game of the season and
first run out on the sod.
Both teams got into the game
immediately. Play was kept
around the middle with our
backs doing a great job keeping
them out. Fermoy got a break in
our defence and landed a goal
in the 7th minute.There was
only one answer for this and
with skill and pace we took on
the game and returned the
compliment by putting the ball
in the back of the Fermoy net in
the 10th minute. Jenny
Fitzharris, Sarah Mc Carthy &
Helen Savage maintained good
position in mid field. There was
great play between both teams
and we went into half time with
1-1 to 2-2 to Fermoy.
The second half started as lively
as the first with Leah O Shea
planting the ball in the back of
the net. The backs were
outstanding, with Allanah Mc
Mahon, Gwen O Brien & Aoife
Kelleher making sure our Keeper
Sophie O Neill was well covered.
We went on to put the ball over
the bar when the opportunity
arouse. Kate Cogan, Rachel
Kelliher & Abbey Smith were
instrumental at finishing off the
ball.
It was a great game enjoyed by
both sides.Well done to Fermoy
on the win.
Final Score 3-4 to 3-6.
Junior: Well done to the Junior Footballers who made a fantastic
start to their league campaign. The girls traveled to Dripsey last
Sunday where they gave a fantastic display of heart and effort.
The home side got off to a good start with a few scores, but the
Erinsown girls fought back to go in at half time almost level.
Clodagh Lane and Ana Cruceanu were outstanding in the back
line, while Emma O Keeffe showed real class in front of goal. Beth
Zito kicked a fantastic point and Emma Wallace scored a hat trick
in the second half. Ciara Milner took over from Andrea Collins
between the posts and made a super save. Olwyn Patterson came
on to battle hard, assisting Wallace in two of her goals. The
Erinsown side came out on the winning side after a very sporting
game, in very heavy conditions. Well done to all involved.
