#15

• Startups could create as

many as 40,000 new

Berlin‘s entrepreneurial ecosystem -

general remarks

• Cultural change : Millenials see

traditional career path as unattractive

• Increasing „tech“-start-ups by

young people (18-30) instead of 50+

• Consequences of the crisis in 2008:

discouragement to strive for a „normal“ job

• “Start-ups are not small versions of big companies

caveat

• Most start-ups do not survive the first 5 years (tough in

the beginning)

• Lifestyle changes due to start-up scene in Berlin:

everything gets more expansive

• Not everybody wants to be an entrepreneur

• Do they really make the world a better place?

We are facing piles of challenges, e.g.:

• climate change,

• shortage of industrial resources,

• peak oil,

• shortage of water,

• pollution,

• increasing inequality…

to name just a few

We need new types of entrepreneurs –

call them social, environmental

or even cultural entrepeneurs –

that create new avenues and solutions

Source: Stiftung Entrepreneurship

We need „creative destruction“ of an economy

which is driven by greed, unsustainable use of

resources and exploitation of the weakness of

people and their sense of inferiority.

When we talk about employment,

we should talk about entrepreneurship.

And when we talk about employability,

we should talk about empowerment

to create a business venture,

to be open for new ideas and

to be alert for new opportunities.
