Present Perfect Tense• has/have + past participle

USE 1: ever, never, once, many times, before, so far, already, yet, just, lately, recently.

Eg. I have never been to Canada.

USE 2: Unspecified time before nowEg. I have encountered that problem many

times. Our boss has never taken a vacation.

USE 3: A change that has happened over a period of time

Eg. You have grown since the last time I saw you.

My English has really improved since I moved to Australia.

USE 4: An uncompleted action you are expecting

Eg. The rain hasn't stopped. Susan hasn't mastered Japanese, but

she can communicate.

USE 5: Duration from the past until now (non-continuous verbs); something started in the past and has continued up until now (for five minutes, for two weeks, since Tuesday...)

Eg. She has been in England for six months.

They have lived* in that house for a while.

- We have not seen that colleague since he left our department.

- Have you two ever met?

Present Perfect Continuoushas/have + been + present participle

Use 1: something started in the past and has continued up until now

Eg. She has been working at that company for three years.

He has been teaching at the university since June.

USE 2: Recently, lately

She has been watching too much television lately.

USE 3: The result can be seen in the present

Eg. Somebody has been using my soap! (the soap is still wet and I can see that)
