- allows a person to make meaning out of a sound

- is simply being able to get the sound

Listening- understanding a message, focusing on a speaker’s idea, and processing it to give an appropriate and relevant response

Listening is a skill that is valued in a person. One of

the qualities of a good listener is being able to

filter distractions.

Types of Listening

1. Informative listening- is simply listening to understand or to be informed

2. Critical listening

- is listening in order to evaluate the message and provide sound judgments

3. Appreciative listening- occurs when you listen to music or other stimuli for enjoyment or pleasure
