Content 目录

I worked on an exhibition during Summer time, so i designed my portfolio like my own exhibition but in different way; this will function as a contents or preview page.

Idea & Concept

Upon reading this book I came up the idea of illustrating historical hats. I wanted to use these illustrations adorn the outside of buildings in London. I felt it was important to use the theme of hats in order to show their historical background, which is not something that is widely known. As well as being able convey a message about the background of hats, I wanted to create something that will add to the visual value of the buildings.

Pregression: Historical Hats

I drew the hats using a step by step process, firstly drawing the outlines and then adding detail. The drawings themselves take a fair amount of time to complete, however I wanted to achieve a high standard of illustration. I wanted to draw a selection of hats that were different and had different backgrounds from one to the next. The hats can function as a timeline throughout the 18th century telling the viewer more about hats during that particular part of history.

Outcome

“Continental” - Cocked Hat (1776)

“Clerical” (Eighteen Century)

Historical Hats

“The Paris Beau” (1815)“Army” (1837)

“Navy” (1820)

Historical Hats

“The D’orsay” (1820)“The Wellington” (1812)

Historical Hats: Experimental: Pop Art

Instead of black and white, i tried to play around with simple colours. I wanted to create a kind of pop art feel to the pictures.

Historical Hats: Experimental: Pencil & Mouse

Further exploring my style of illustration I digitally added just small sections of colour to each hat.

Experimental: Building Art: Illustration

Experiments with the UCA Epsom building using my own illustrations.

Final Outcome: Building Art: Illustration

This is the final outcome of my hat exploration, I added the pictures of the hats to the walls of a building. I wanted to enhance the visual aesthetic of the building.

Instead of enhance the value of building itself, I would like use different way to bring out my concept. I assumed myself to execute an event to promote the fashion of 17th century through the London Fashion week, which is cooperating with London College of Fashion and London Fashion & Textile Museum. I draw several images with pencil, and present the images on wall with projector. The images and information could be animated.

One of the artists who inspired me. Using the simple lines and illustrations to convey a message is something i am very interested in.

Practice: IllustrationIn order to practice my illustration style i wanted to draw simple ob-jects that i could find around me.

Practice: Digital llustration: Christmas Card

Looking back at previous work i’ve done inspired me to create something similar.

Progression: Digital+Illustration: Smoking Man

Outcome: Digital+Illustration: Smoking Man

I wanted to use my original style to create a series of images or illustrations that convey a message about bad habbits, such as smoking and excessive drinking.

Starting with the original black and white illustration i gradually add sections of colour to the image until it is completed.

Final Outcome: Digital+Illustration: Bad Habits

The final outcome of my illustration experiment. In keeping with my own illustration style I wanted to add just a small amount of colour to the images, using the colour to emphasize the main focus of the illustration.

Where can i use them?

Experimenting with ideas and places the images could be used in order to convey their message.

Images & Illustration

Illusion

Progression: Images & Illustration

Digital+Illustration: Optical Illusion: Garlic

Using my illustration style i wanted to explore the idea of mxing illustrations with real objects. Almost like creating the illusion of the illustration being part of the object.

Digital+Illustration: Optical Illusion: Flowers

Developing this idea further i wanted to create a series images that can be used in conjuction with a collection of objects. In this case I have chosen to use vases upon which I have placed illustrations of plant stems. Once the owner places a flower into the vase, the illustrations becomes part of the flower.

After looking at the work I have produced so far for this project I have come to the conclusion that even though you may seem to come up with what you think is a good idea, after some experimentation and research it can be come quite hard to experiment with and develop.

I have discovered that the topic of hats can be quite limiting and difficult to develop, because of this, during the FMP i would like to explore other ways of illustrationg in order to add new and fresh ideas to my project work.

I have enjoyed working on my illustration skills and combining it with my digital skils. I used this idea to convey a message about bad habits.

Exploring the idea of illustration and digital work further I decided to create work which would combine my illustrations with objects.

I would like to continue with my research and expand upon my knowledge in this area. I can do this by experimenting more with my ideas and illustrations while also doing more artist research to help idea development.

Evaluation

After experimenting with my ideas from the previous project, I have decided that I would like to work on something that is more unique to my style of working. As a theme I want to investigate the idea of love and how it connects people to many different things, such as places, other people or even objects.

As starting point I want to research artists and designers such as Milton Glaser who created the ‘I Love New York’ logo. This logo has had a significant influence on design since its creation and can be see in use in almost every country across the globe. As well as looking into designers such as Glaser, I want to explore and research artists like Picasso, who I feel has a similar style of working to myself.

In creating my work, I am keen to explore the idea of illustration. I would like to illustrate using pen and pencil after which I will transfer the images into Photoshop in order to retouch any problems they may have.

During the course of my FMP I want to use these ideas to research and gain a more inclusive knowledge of people’s connections which are created by love and affection. Working on ideas such as using illustrations and colour to highlight the aspects of love within them, I will investigate love within everyone’s lives and how it has an affect on them.

During the course of this investigation I am looking to generate a series of illustrations which can convey the research I have conducted and express the messages within them.

As a final outcome I would like to take all of the images and ideas I have discovered and produced to form a small book. I will investigate different book sizes to discover which will be the most effective for my images. Using the idea of the book I want to consolidate my ideas and illustrations into one series or collection. I would like to work towards publishing my work via the internet as well as making a small book which can be distributed at events such as interview or the final degree show.
