Edgewood View February 2018
Edgewood Country Club
I hope this message finds each of you doing well in the New Year. January was somewhat quiet at ECC but that is
the norm for this time of year. As you know we close the first week of January each year so that the staff can
work on some maintenance needs throughout the Clubhouse not easily done during the year without disrupting
your normal daily activities while at your Club. This year our biggest project involved the replacement of ceiling
tiles in the area outside of the elevator (near the Member’s Lounge) as well as in the hallways outside of the
squash courts and in the Men’s locker room and shower area. We also accomplished some much needed deep
cleaning in the dining, bar, and kitchen areas. I appreciate the efforts of the team members who volunteered to
work during a time when the Club is normally closed.
Each year during the month of February we experience a certain level of turnover on the ECC Board of
Governors. This year is no exception. The members going off the ECC Board this year are:
Tom Epps—Club President
Deborah Brown—Membership & Marketing Committee Chair
Marc Bryson—Racquets and Fitness Committee Chair
Randy Masinter—Food, Service & Entertainment Committee Chair
Shawna Meeks—Pool Committee Chair
Terri Rusin—Finance Committee Chair
On behalf of the remaining Board Members and the ECC Membership I would like to extend great appreciation to
each of these individuals for the time they have spent over the past several years serving the Club and their fellow
members. I would also like to thank them for the guidance they have provided those of us hired to serve. The
Club (from all perspectives) is much better off today because of their commitment and dedication.
As you can see above, almost every Committee Chair will be replaced on February 10th when the new Board
Members are elected. Slated to join the Board are: Ryan Lindsay as Club President and Bill Dobbins as Vice
President. “At Large” Board Members will be Maria Young, Philip Reale, Keith Stonestreet, and Brad Foster. I
want to also thank these individuals for stepping up and taking on this very important role of club governess. I
look forward to working with each of you in the coming years. During the first meeting of the new Board, the
Club’s President will appoint Committee Chairpersons. I will update you once the appointments are made.
In closing this month, I would like to remind everyone Chef Dennis and the entire Food and Beverage Team has
planned two wonderful Valentine’s Dinner options for you to chose from this year …
For those who prefer a more romantic evening of enjoyment; In the Ballroom & South View Room we are
offering live entertainment by Steve Himes & Danielle. Starting at 6:30 and lasting until 7:15 cocktails will be
enjoyed in the South View Room. At 7:15 we will seat for dinner in the ballroom and start service on a 4
course meal Chef Dennis and his culinary team has prepared. You and your love can enjoy the entertainment
and dinner “only” OR you can enjoy the music, dinner, and expertly paired wine with each course (for a
nominal additional fee). Wine service on this evening will be provided by a professional sommelier.
This event is limited to the first 50 who call, so don’t delay in making your reservation right away.
For those who want to enjoy a meal off the menu in the Grill and Edgewood Rooms, we will be offering our
normal a la Carte menus for your dining pleasure and on your schedule.
Please remember, the continued success of your Club is dependent upon your support. I hope to see each of you at
your Club many times during the month of February.

I hope everyone’s New Year’s resolutions are still up, and active. This Month’s recipe is not to deter those
goals but, Valentine’s Day obviously needs chocolate. I’ve put together a recipe for chocolate truffles that
will leave your cravings behind. They’re very simple to make and the varieties will vary simply by adding
your favorite liquors or deleting them all together.

Dennis Harris

Unfortunately this year we are having a “true winter” and golf has been at a minimum. With that being said,
there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Masters is only 62 days away so spring is getting closer!!!
Even though the weather has been frigid lately it is never to early to make plans for the upcoming season.
The club has planned out the golf schedule of events calendar for the 2018 season. This calendar can be
found by going to the ECC website and clicking on the Golf Tab (on the left hand side of the page) followed
by Golf Calendar. This will allow our membership to plan in advance for golf events such as Demo Days,
Tournaments including The Superintendent’s Revenge, Spring Member/Member, Men’s Member/Guest,
National Women’s Golf Day and various other golf events throughout the year. So please take a minute and
review the calendar and pencil in the dates and events that you would like to participate in. We are excited
about the 2018 season and look forward to making it a joyful and memorable experience for everyone
involved.

Revised ECC Guest Policy Dear Edgewood Members,
I would like to advise you of a change in the ECC Golf Rules and Etiquette - Classifications of Guests and Restrictions on Play.
Effective January 1st, the Golf and Green Committee, with the input and approval of the Board of Directors, voted to amend the
Golf Rules and Etiquette to provide that no guest may play more than 8 times during a single calendar year, and that no immediate
family members who are non-residents may play more than 10 times during a single calendar year. These limits apply regardless
of which member(s) host the guest. For example, a guest may play 8 times with a single member or once each with 8 different
members, but in no event may the total for any guest exceed 8 rounds in a year.
The ECC Golf Rules and Etiquette are available on the club’s
website. We look forward to seeing you and your guests on the
course in 2018!

Eat protein all day long! Guys will probably be fighting online for millennia about the best time to get protein during the day. To add to the chorus, a new study from the U. of Illinois recently tackled the subject in a two-phase experiment using rats. First, they gave two groups three meals a day with 16% of calories from protein-one fed animal-based protein from whey or eggs, another plant protein from soy and wheat-and found that the animal group had increased muscle synthesis, while the veggie eaters gained 20% more body fat. The second part focused only on whey protein with one group getting a balanced amount of protein through the day, while the other got ramped-up protein as the day went on. The study showed that rats with the balanced protein had greater muscle mass than those on the unbalanced diet. Human studies are up next, but count this as one more recommendation for an all-day balanced-protein feeding for greater gains.
