Method

•Construct two concentric circles, one of which is twice the radius of the other

•Divide the circles into six radiant parts, and draw concentric mouldings

•Draw six circles centred on the moulding, and then draw mouldings concentric to the smaller circles

•Terminate all curved lines at their intersection points

Hexafoil construction

Step 1: Draw a vertical line and a horizontal line intersecting at point A near the centre of the page

Step 2: Centre compasses at A and draw a circle with radius 50mm

Step 3: Keeping the same radius, centre compasses at B and scribe arc B A C

Step 4: Draw a circle centred at A with radius A C

Step 5: Keeping the same radius, draw two arcs at each point C D E and F to intersect with the circle AC

Step 6: Draw construction lines through the centre point, dividing the circle into twelve parts

Step 7: Draw a moulding with radius 90mm

Step 8: Draw a moulding with radius 60mm and mark off six points around it

Step 9: Draw six circles centred around the inner circle so that they are all touching each other

Step 10: Draw mouldings with radius 25mm

Step 11: Terminate all circles at their intersection with the inner circle

Step 12: Remove the inner circle

Step 13: Clean up construction lines and darken outlines
