A.Why Aspirants Prefer SSC Services? What are the career options that the candidates are looking for these days, after graduation or the 12th standard? They are looking for careers that offer job security with fixed salary, fixed working hours and guaranteed time-bound promotions. SSC is the gateway to these types of jobs. Let’s see how.1. SSC isn’t a hard nut to crack: SSC is easier to crack, when an aspirant
compares it with IAS, PCS, CAT and Banking.2 Better job security in Central government jobs: Job security is the main
and most important point in taking up a career option. Central Government jobs are stable, unlike many private sectors, where hire and fire work culture is seen. Thus, these jobs are secured and recession proof.
3. Opportunity to maintain an equal balance in work and life: SSC offers a wonderful opportunity of work-life balance. Unlike the private sector, wherein job performance is of utmost importance, a Central Government job gives an ample time for personal enrichment. For example, today you are young and can work very hard. But with time, as you grow older and have a family to take care of, job security is must that offers you mental peace to spend time and hard earned money with your family.
4. Lucrative salary structure: Pay Commissions regularly review the salary structure that is offered to the Central Government workforce. Salaries in public sector go up, whenever the recommendations of a Pay Commission are implemented. These recommendations are employee-friendly, thereby making the Central Government jobs even more lucrative.
5. Opportunity without discrimination: Central Government offers an equal opportunity to all without discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, religion, ethnicity or any other parameter except given in the rule. The recruitments made are seen to be, by and large, transparent. One has to prove one’s merit in a competitive exam, in order to get selected.
6. Distinguished Social Stature: A Central Government employee enjoys a dignified standing and respect in the society. Many candidates take up SSC as the first step towards their dream of becoming a gazetted officer some day in future.
Chapter
2WHY SSC SERVICES?
Mission SSC87. Felicitous promotions in SSC jobs: SSC jobs provide time bound promotion
and at the same time, give yearly incentive and lucrative salary right from the beginning. Seniority is a crucial factor in Central Government promotion policy. Due importance is given to the time that one has spent in the job. Employees get fairly rewarded on the basis of how experienced they are.
8. Career development: SSC keeps conducting grade-wise departmental competitive exams for existing Central Government staff members. This provides them with ample growth prospects. Exemplary performance in these exams can set a person on the path of accelerated career progression.
9. Beneficial Schemes for Financial Security: Numerous schemes are especially crafted with government employees in mind. For instance, Gratuity is a provision for Central Government employees who work for five years without any break; Central Government Pension Scheme is a scheme for retired personnel for their financial security.
10. Attractive Loan options: Public and Private Banks prefer Central Government employees for loan as they have a continuous and stable job, unlike their counterparts in private job who not only have an uncertain job but also are dependent on the wavy salary structure offered to them.
Here is striking evidence from the print media that shows why are government jobs a hot favourite.
Why Indian PhD and BTech holders love lowly government jobs

Mission SSC 9
For most Indians with graduate degrees, government jobs offer three benefits: long-term job security, comfortable working hours, a recurring income with little link to performance or productivity and a chance to make that extra buck from bribes – though few would admit it.(Vipin Kumar/HT File Photo)Last December, the Uttar Pradesh government issued orders to appoint some 35,700 employees on contract for cleaning jobs in municipalities, with an aim to finish hiring in 50 days. Among those who applied were MBAs, BTechs and PhDs.In January, the Punjab government held examinations to appoint “patwaris” (a clerical job in which land records are maintained in villages). Those who sought this job included LLBs, PhDs, MBAs and BTechs.Source: https://www.hindustantimes.com/analysis/why-indian-phds-and-btechs-love-lowly-government-jobs/story-n7aGMi5UGeisaWQKvPR9uI.html
B. SSC as Career Backup Plan for IAS/ PCS Aspirants
Why Backup Plan?
• For the reason of uncertainty involved in UPSC adventures, it is not a good idea to put all eggs in one basket.
• Aspirants are suggested that there are no cut and dry methods of “backup plans for UPSC”, so evaluate all the pros and cons, based on your personality and alternative-career ambitions.
• Those who are MBBS, CA, IITs etc. need not worry much about “backup”. But for the others who don’t have any career back-up plans, they are advised to think for those government jobs that can be easier to crack than IAS. For example, SSC, Railway, Banking, CDS etc.
Aforesaid are the reasons why majority of aspirants for government jobs take up Central Government jobs offered through the annual SSC-CGL/CHSL/MTS/SA/SI/LDC/JE/Stenographers, etc. exams. However, some of them who have secured a stable and lucrative career with Central Government Jobs aspire to reach the higher level of the Indian governmental machinery, i.e. the Civil Services. Preparing for IAS exams is a very rigorous task, involving not a few months but years of preparation along with complete dedication and commitment from the aspirants. With such a challenging task ahead, many of these IAS aspirants start asking themselves if it is possible to continue their SSC Jobs in continuum with the preparation for the IAS Exam.
Is it possible to prepare for IAS exam along with SSC Jobs?
If the IAS aspirants, who have become the Central Government employees, after clearing their SSC exams, are confused whether they will get time, atmosphere and cooperation for the preparation of IAS Exam, while still in service, there is
Mission SSC10a good news. Every year, many Central Government employees who have joined their SSC jobs, are not only attempting but also clearing the IAS examinations. It may seem unlikely, but that is the thing with IAS aspirants, they always find innovative ways of dealing with challenges and competition. In fact, many such SSC job holders have also pointed out that, although they picked up the job as a backup, the SSC CGL jobs helped them crack the Civil Services exam. This was possible because of the cooperative and encouraging attitude of seniors, who inspired them to go for the big exam. The second and probably the most important advantage that SSC CGL employees have, is of being close to the government officers and civil servants, who have already cleared the big exam. Along with the guidance and tips for the exam, watching the daily working keeps the spark alive and fire burning to achieve their dream of becoming an IAS officer.
What others say about Career Back-up Plan1. R.A. Israel Jebasingh, worked at Indian Administrative Service
He says, “There is nothing wrong in having a backup plan.” “In fact, I would say a matured individual will always have an alternative
plan of sustaining himself if plan 1 doesn’t work.”2. Preeti Maithil, IAS Officer 2009 Batch, Collector Rewa (ex Collector
