About the College

• Establishes standards of practice and conduct,• Ensures Ontario students are taught by skilled

teachers who adhere to clear standards of practice and conduct,

• Accredits teacher education programs and courses,

• Investigates complaints of misconduct or incompetence made against members and

• Issues teaching certificates and may suspend or revoke them.

How to Create an Account

Once you are certified:• Go to www.oct.ca.• Click on “Members” on the top tool bar.• Under “Members’ Area” on the right side

click on “Create an Account.”• By creating an account you can change

your home address, members’ area password and can sign up for College e-mail updates.

• Over 4,000 books and videos covering topics that include pre-service and in-service training, curriculum development, assessment and standards of practice.

• Log into your Members’ Area Account and choose "Your Library" to access your customized library page. You can: – request books and videos online from the College

library and have them mailed to you free of charge – check the status of your holds – renew materials you've checked out – create your own library lists.

• Your first assignments will likely be short term.

• Each board has a procedure for posting long term assignments – check with your board.

• Number of days eligible for a long term assignment varies by board.

• You will be required to sign a contract.

• You will need a salary rating to be put on the pay grid.

• New teachers are defined as all new teachers certified by the College who have been hired into permanent positions by school boards.

• Supports the growth and professional development of new teachers.

• Helps new teachers to achieve their full potential.• Provides a full year of professional support.• No program for short term teachers.• Many boards have programs for long term

Annual Learning Plan

• If hired on a contract, there is an appraisal program you should follow.

• The ALP includes the teacher’s professional growth, proposed objectives, action plan and timeline to achieve the objectives.

• Both the principal and teacher must review and sign the ALP and each retains a copy.

• Fosters teacher development

• Provides a continuum of support as new teachers successfully complete NTIP

• Experienced teachers who have not participated in NTIP also benefit from this growth-focused appraisal process
