WR: Aerial bellydanceMadhuri Sharma(b Dec 23, 1986)from Gangapur,Rajasthan performedbelly dance for 4min 20 sec whilesuspended from theroof at a height of11 ft 6 in at theMaan Palaceauditorium, Jaipur,Rajasthan on April23, 2016. Sheperformed the basicchoreography ofdifferent types ofshimmies of hip andchest at variousspeeds, snakehandmovements, bellymovements andbody waves.

First folk dance based fitness programmeFolkFitness (TM) is a new exercise programmewhich incorporates the dance steps of variousIndian folk dances. The special choreographyfor this new fitness work out picks up steps fromdances like Garba, Bhangra, Bihu, Koli andKarakattam among various others from acrossIndia. Ashwin Pandey, Aarti D Pandey and ManojK Upreti have developed this fitness workoutThe workout starts with meditation, upper bodyworkout, lower body workout, cardio andflexibility drills for cooling down. They haveseparate choreographies for kids (FolkFitness –Nanhe), adults (FolkFitness – Yuva) and seniorcitizens (FolkFitness – Pranam). After 18 monthsof research the final choreography and musiccombination for the fitness routines weredeveloped by the team and was officiallylaunched, post trademark registration, at theATP Fitness Convention Centre, Ahmedabad onDec 11, 2015. Over 50 certified trainers of FolkFitness were already working across thecountry by October 2016.

Most stage shows in a yearDanceSmith Performing Arts Pvt Ltd, a touring performing artscompany based in Delhi, was commissioned for 510 shows acrossIndia and abroad between Jan 3, 2015 to Dec 31, 2015. Registereddancers of the company performed across various venues duringthe year for groups and solo performances. The shows mostlycomprised weddings and corporate social events. DanceSmithPerforming Arts Pvt Ltd was setup by Sujit Kayal in December2014.

WR: Marathon Kathak performanceSoni Chaurasia (b July 15, 1983) an artiste fromVaranasi performed Kathak for 126 hr at theMount Litera Zee School auditorium in Varanasi,Uttar Pradesh from April 4-9, 2016. She hadearlier attempted for 81 hr 18 mins at the AryaMahila Degree college in Varanasi, Uttar Pradeshfrom Nov 14-18, 2015.

the Natya Shastra of Bharata and 15 Karanas fromthe Sangeetha Upanishad Saaram. The hour longprogramme also included a dance performance bythe students and was choreographed by Dr BVijaya Jyoti, the Principal of the institute.

Most Zumba performances in a day(group)Pink Studio in collaboration with PhoenixMarketCity Mall organised Zumba performancesat five venues across Pune on Jan 16, 2016. Thegroup of 29 participants started their performanceat Indian Institute of Science Education andResearch (IISER) at 1.30 pm, followed by SGSMall, Kumar Pacific Mall, Inorbit Mall and endedit at Phoenix City Mall at 7.20 pm. The 20 minperformance spreading the message of ‘Save theGirl Child’ was choreographed by ZumbaInstructor Prajakta Yelwatkar.

Largest Kathak performanceVivek Verma the president of SaReGaMaBharatiya Sangeet Samajik Evam SanskritikWelfare Sansthan, Lucknow organised a Kathakperformance with 772 performers at theGovernment Inter College ground in Lucknow,Uttar Pradesh on August 12, 2015. Theparticipants of Nrityam - 2 were part of variousdance and school institutes across the city andthey performed together for 5 min.

WR: Largest Margam Kali performanceSt Xavier’s Church, South Thanissery, Kerala organised the largest Margam Kali dance with 646women parishioners, aged between 7-90 years, at St Antony’s Girls High School Ground on April 16,2015. The programme began at 7.00 pm with the lighting of the lamp and the dance lasted for 20 min.

WR: Largest Natti performanceRakesh Kanwar, Deputy Commissioner of DistrictKullu, Himachal Pradesh organised a Nattiperformance with 9,892 participants at the RathGround, Dhalpur on Oct 26, 2015. All men, womenand young girls and boys dressed in their traditionalfineries danced to Himachali tunes. The event called‘Pride of Kullu’ propagated the theme ‘Save the Girlchild’. The performance also concluded the annualKullu Dusshera celebrations.

WR: Largest Karmadance performanceMandla DistrictAdministration organisedKarma Naach performancewith 3,049 participants atMahatma Gandhi Stadium,Mandla, MP on April 11,2016. The artistes weredivided into 61 groups andall were dressed up in thetraditional fineries of theGond tribes for the 5-minperformance. Theperformance was arrangedto promote ‘Save the GirlChild’ campaign and waspart of the three-day annualRam Nagar Utsav.
