E-commerce rising constantly
In 2011, the Dutch home market for internet shopping was 10 billion Euro = 9-10 %of the total retail sales Compared to 2.8 per cent in 2005
Clothes & shoes: 40-50 % (NL) – Every second pair of shoes is bought over internet
Home delivery
Even vegetables and food are increasingly sold via the internet – (yearly growth rate in Germany: 24,5%; regular online sales: 20,5%)
In Germany 750 mio packages are delivered each year – ever third one – 250 mio – are sent back
1. Favourable framework conditions and policies set by city administrations.
2. Awareness of customers for innovative and green delivery options
A great chance for Cyclelogistics
WHAT IS NEEDED TO REALIZE THIS CHANCE?
• Vehicle-based restrictions, e.g. types, sizes, weights, etc.
• Zone-based restrictions, e.g. zones for certain vehicles
• Time-based restrictions, e.g. time windows for delivery,
• Access charges based on specific times or environmental circumstances
Municipalities need to act with regulations
Municipalities need to act with promotion
Awareness of customers and end users
• Pack stations (DHL, bento box, …)
• On demand courier services (myways, uber,…)
• Roam delivery services (Volvo)
• Same day delivery platforms (Tiramizoo)
