Abstract
This Curriculum Area Project, Supplementing the Kindergarten Wonders Reading Program, is a
supplemental curriculum to be used alongside the Wonders program presently used in the regular
kindergarten classroom. This supplemental curriculum, focusing on Units 1-5, will deepen
diverse student understanding of grade level content and help students master kindergarten
standards.
Activities in this project are included to enrich and reinforce the classroom Wonders reading
program. These activities will require student response in the form of reading, writing, speaking,
listening and artistic expression.
2
Rationale
The Wonders reading program is based on Common Core Standards. All supplemental activities
included within this Curriculum Area Project were created to reinforce those standards and the
diverse learners within the classroom. In order to best differentiate instruction and strengthen all
students’ academic skills, this unit consists of relevant and rigorous activities that will help
students master Common Core Learning Standards addressed within the Wonders Program.
