GLIMPSES OF GLORY
A friend of mine was on a safari and described an experience that he had on the trip. At one point they were driving along and they heard loud noises of splashing and elephants blowing their trunks like horns. It was so loud that they stopped and the guide told them that it was safe to get out of the vehicles and look over what was a ridge. They did so and saw baby elephants rolling on their backs splashing in the water. They saw female elephants nursing some of the young. They saw teenage elephants rough housing with each other and they saw the male elephants standing guard. All of a sudden the male elephants began to blow their trunks and make a different sound like an alarm. They lined up, the female elephants behind them and positioned in the gaps between the males. The teenage elephants behind the females and positioned in the gaps between them. There emerged two male lions, who would never consider taking down a full grown elephant, but would attempt to take down a baby. As the lions moved to one side the company of elephants moved with them; they continued in this way, back and forth again for a time. Eventually, the lions moved on. All the
while the babies kept rolling in the water unaware.
We could imagine this as an image of the church. The men, the women, and even the youth all do their parts to secure the church and its mission. Each one of us needs to do our part, recognizing and sharing our gifts, each one in position. Why? Because there is something great at stake, the children. They need to continue to play securely in the presence of the Lord.
This is a summoning, a call for all to do their part as we enter this new year. “Discipline yourselves, keep alert, like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.” (1Peter 5:8) We are a great company of saints with Christ as our King. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time. Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.”(1Peter 5:6&7)

Best wishes to all for a very happy and
healthy 2017!
January’s cold allows us to explore ice,
snow and cold weather activities. We’re
hoping for some snow soon so we can get
in the mood for winter weather fun. In
class, we will be creating snowflakes,
snowpeople and ice mosaics. We will
make bird/squirrel feeders to help our
animal friends too. During gross moto
activities, we will be throwing “snowballs”
at targets, “sledding” and “skiing” down
our large bock ramps, and “skating” with
our cardboard brick blocks. Hopefully, we
will be able to spend some time playing
with some real snow too! We will also be
learning about polar animals and their
habitats (polar bears, penguins, seals,
arctic foxes, etc.) as well as those animals
that hibernate during winter months.
Hibernation leads us into our unit on
bears, and ultimately, to our celebrations
on Teddy Bear Pajama Days.
We will also continue exploring magnets
in our science area. Of course, we will be
celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. and
discussing our likenesses and differences
and how wonderful diversity is! During
Chapel Time, we will be learning abou the
visit from the three kinds and then about
Jesus growing up, spending tiem in the
temple and His baptism.
It’s hard to believe that we are thinking of
our next school year already. Registration
will begin next week for current students
and church members who will be
attending the 2017-2018 school year.
Please let us know if you know of anyone
interested in attending so we can save a
space. Thank you.
Peace,
Janet Kain
