Cross of Glory & West Freeborn Lutheran Churches January 2020 Sunday Morning Worship times: West Freeborn – 9:00 a.m. – Cross of Glory – 10:30 a.m. New Beginnings “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:13) We worship a God of new beginnings. This God is not afraid to enter the world as a baby, or to experience death. The God we worship prepares a new day every day, and offers new life to everyone. God established a place of perfection for creation, a garden, and made humans to tend and care for this creation. The only stipulation was that they were not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But they ate from it, and this disobedient act cost dearly. Expelled from the perfect place they now had to tend an imperfect place and live imperfect lives that would end in death. But this was not a life abandoned by God. It was not perfection because they did not deserve that life. But it was a new beginning and a new opportunity to be obedient. But people still had too much freedom and were too inclined toward sin. God destroyed creation with the flood, saving Noah and his family. And we had another new beginning, with a new promise from the creator that God would never visit upon this creation such destruction ever again. The rainbow is the sign of this promise. With this new beginning and new promise people rebuilt the world, but disobedience was still a problem. God’s people found themselves enslaved by the Egyptians, forced to do hard labor. God heard their cries and came to their rescue, and the people were delivered by God’s mighty and outstretched arm, led across the wilderness, and given a new land. Always new beginnings with this God. As Christians we continue to receive a new beginning each day as we accept the grace offered us in Jesus Christ. A new year, a time of resolutions and fresh opportunities. Yours in Christ, Pastor Schwartz 1

New Beginnings “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new

earth, the home of righteousness.” (2 Peter 3:13)

We worship a God of new beginnings.

Joint Council meeting – Tuesday, January 7, 2019 at Cross of Glory

Annual Meeting @ West Freeborn, Sunday, January 19, 2020

**************************************

Cross of Glory & West Freeborn Churches - Joint Council Meeting December 03, 2019

The joint council meeting of Cross of Glory and West Freeborn Churches met on Dec. 03, 2019, at 7:00 pm at West Freeborn. Steve Ausen, Dave Ausen, Pastor Steve, Rachel Knudson, Martin Johnson, Mike Ehrich, Pat Ehrich, Corky Modene, Glenn Ausen, Ron Bartness, Tim Bartness, Paul Lynne, and Becky Ausen were present. West Freeborn President, Dave Ausen called the meeting to order. Pastor Steve led us in prayer. Pastor’s Report:

Funeral: Doug Jacobs, November 15 at West Freeborn. Burial will take place at a later date.

Baptism: Otto Joshua O’Byrne, son of Joshua and Jade O’Byrne, December 01 at West Freeborn.

I led the nursing home services in New Richland on November 14. Many thanks to Karen Ausen who played the piano, taking Judy’s place so she could attend a funeral.

Really nice job on the Bazaar at West Freeborn on November 17. Judy deserves a lot of praise for taking on the job of being polka leader. I know she spent a great deal of time working on those songs, and it made working in the office more enjoyable getting to listen to polka music coming from the sanctuary.

Both churches are hard at work pulling our Christmas programs together. I have not been able to get too involved with what West Freeborn is working on, but I do know that there are confirmation students involved so I can help out on that end at least. The program at Cross of Glory is a fun one and they are letting me dust off my guitar.

It is always a shame to have to cancel church services and we have had to do it much too often lately. Our Thanksgiving Eve service fell victim to bad weather. Hopefully that will be this winter’s only casualty.

A meeting of the Blue Earth River Conference pastors will be held on January 02, 2020. There will need to be morning coffee and a lunch provided to the attendees. This year West Freeborn is hosting it. Rachel read the minutes from last meeting. They were approved as read.

Open issues:

There will be no communion in Dec. 22. There will be communion on Dec. 24th and Dec. 25th.

Cross of Glory’s annual meeting will be on Sunday, Dec. 08, 2019.

Cindi had let the council know that the copier that we received from the Freeborn Historical Society was starting to have some problems. Corky made a motion and Martin seconded it to have Cindi check into getting it fixed. Motion passed.

At the Annual Meetings of both churches, it needs to be brought up about having a combined Activity Committee. It was suggested 3 people from each church make up this committee.

Jerry made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Steve seconded it. Motion passed. Respectfully submitted. Becky Ausen, Secretary 3

West Freeborn Lutheran Church Council Meeting – December 03, 2019

The West Freeborn Church Council met on Dec. 03, 2019, following the joint council meeting at West Freeborn. Members present were Mike Ehrich, Glenn Ausen, Dave Ausen, Pat Ehrich, Steve Ausen, Corky Modene and Becky Ausen. President Dave Ausen, called the meeting to order. Becky read the secretaries report. It was approved as read. Pat read the treasurer’s report. Corky made a motion to approve the report. Mike seconded it. Motion carried.

Old Business:

Windows: Gary and Mary have them and are working on them.

Pastoral Picture: They are done. Take a look! Looks great!

Harvest Bazaar: It went well. We made $3,341.00.

Light bulb above altar needs to be replaced: Glenn is looking for volunteer to help him.

New Business:

Christmas Bags for Christmas Program: We will put these together on Dec. 14th at 9AM. Becky will get the supplies needed.

Benevolence: Glenn made a motion to keep it the same as last year. Corky seconded it. Motion passed.

Nominees for Officers: Start asking for volunteers for President and different council member positions. All you members in the congregation, if you have a desire to help make West Freeborn Church the great church that it is, please consider joining the council.

Budget: Pat will try to get to Cindi once a month where we are on the budget to put in the bulletin. Kudos to Pat for doing a GREAT job with the treasurer’s position. I don’t think we all realize the hours she puts into this position, while still working a full-time job

and being Grandma on top of it. 😊 Thanks Pat!

Steve made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Glenn seconded it. Closed with the Lord’s Prayer. Respectfully Submitted: Becky Ausen, Secretary
