Early career Ratan Tata completed his schooling from
Campion School in Mumbai. He completed his BSc degree in architecture
with structural engineering from CornellUniversity in 1962.
And the Advanced Management Programfrom Harvard Business School in 1975.
He joined the Tata Group in December 1962,after turning down a job with IBM on the adviceof JRD Tata. He was first sent to Jamshedpur towork at Tata Steel.

Career In 1971, Ratan was appointed the Director-in-
Charge of The National Radio & ElectronicsCompany Limited (Nelco).
In 1981, Ratan was named director of TataIndustries, the Group's other holding company.
In 1991, he took over as group chairmanfrom J.R.D. Tata.
Under Ratan's guidance, Tata ConsultancyServices went public and Tata Motors was listedon the New York Stock Exchange.

Contd In 1998, Tata Motors introduced his brainchild, the Tata
Indica.
On January 31, 2007, under the chairmanship of Ratan Tata,Tata Sons successfully acquired Corus Group, an Anglo-
Dutch steel and aluminium producer. With the acquisition,Ratan Tata became a celebrated personality in Indiancorporate business culture. The merger created the fifthlargest steel producing entity in the world.
On March 26, 2008, Tata Motors, under Ratan Tata, boughtJaguar & Land Rover from Ford Motor Company. The twoiconic British brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, were acquiredfor 1.15 billion ($2.3 billion).

On the occasion of India's 50th Republic Dayon 26 January 2000, Ratan Tata washonoured with the Padma Bhushan.
In February 2004, Ratan Tata was conferredthe title of honorary economic advisorto Hangzhou city in the Zhejiang provinceof China.
In 2006 he received the FIRST Award forResponsible Capitalism.

Contd In March 2006 Tata was honoured by Cornell
University as the 26th Robert S. Hatfield Fellowin Economic Education, considered the highesthonor the university awards to distinguished
individuals from the corporate sector. He was listed among the 25 most powerful
people in business named by Fortune magazinein November 2007.
In May 2008 Mr Tata made it to the Timemagazine's 2008 list of the World's 100 mostinfluential people.

doctorate in business administration bythe Ohio State University.

bigger,ofcourse,than it is now. More importantaly,I hopethe group comes to be regarded as being the best in India.Best in manner in which we operate, Best in the productswe deliver , and best in our system & ethics . Having said
that , I hope that a hundred years from now we willbread our wings far beyond India , that we become aglobal group , operating in many countries , as Indianbusiness conglomerate that is at home in the world ,
carrying the same set of trust as we do today
