Inclement Weather
Busing When buses are cancelled throughout Black Gold, the following radio and TV stations will be notified: Radio: CFCW
(790 AM), CHED (630 AM), CFRN (1260 AM), INEWS (880 AM), JOE (92.5 FM), CISN (103.9 FM) and CBC (740 AM). TV: CityTV, Global, Weather Network.
Beaumont schools are usually open even when buses are not running. Parents should ensure that the school is open
before deciding to drive their children to school. Please also ensure the children are able to get into the building be-fore driving away.
Occasionally, parents decide to drive their children to school when the buses are not running. In such cases parents
need to be aware that they will have to return at 3:15 p.m. to collect their children. When buses do not run in the mornings due to weather, they do not run in the afternoons either.
Buses are sometimes required to leave before the end of the school day. Every effort will be made to contact parents,
but parents should listen to the radio if they think the weather is deteriorating, in order to be aware of closures. It is imperative that the school has accurate home and work phone numbers. If you are not sure that numbers are cur-rent, call the school and check.
Children should be aware of what to do if they arrive home and parents are not there to receive them.
Skating Grades 1-5
A reminder that the students in Grades
One to Five will be skating again in Jan-
uary. Students will be bused to the rink
and will skate with their class. There is
no cost associated with this activity as the
School Council Fundraising Commit-
tee is paying for the bus to transport
students. Students must wear a CSA ap-
proved hockey helmet, properly fitted skates
and gloves or mitts. Skates must be trans-
ported in a cloth bag for protection of
the child as well as his/her classmates.
This is also a rule for the safe
transportation of skates on Black Gold
buses.
Permission forms were sent home in Decembers. Parents are welcome to
join their child’s class.
Skiing/Snowboarding
Ski lessons are booked for January 28th and Feb. 19th as part of our Physical Education program for Grade Four and Five students. All students will be taking lessons,
regardless of their skiing or snowboarding ability.
Choir Performances
Congratulations to the choir, who have been busy singing in our community, both during Remembrance
Day and during the Christmas season. Well done, students!! A big thank you also goes out to Mme
Hendriks and Mme Mason for all their hard work in preparing the students.

Accountability Pillar Survey
As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for Alberta
Education and school authorities to ensure that we’re equipping students for success.
The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16 indicators consisting of surveys of students, parents and teachers on
various aspects of quality; student outcomes such as dropout and high school completion rates; and provincial
assessments of student learning.
From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar
Survey. In January, parents of students in grades 4, 7 & 10 will receive a survey from Alberta Education. In
February, students in grades 4, 7 & 10 and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.
All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about experiences with the school. In addition to English and
French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog
and Urdu.
Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is
receiving, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly.
Survey results will be available to school authorities in May 2015, and will be reported publicly as part of their
3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.

ROMAN CATHOLIC RELIGION PROGRAM INFORMATION
FIRST COMMUNION FOR GRADE TWO STUDENTS
First Communion now happens in grade two! Do you want your child to receive First Communion? Here’s how! Preparing children for a Catholic sacrament involves parents, St. Vital Catholic Parish and your child's school. Everyone has a role! As a parent, you are the primary teacher of the faith for your child. As you know, the sacraments are celebrated and lived in the parish. Because of this, the preparation for the celebration of the sacraments takes place in the parish. Sacramental preparation registration also takes place at the parish. The schools support what takes place in the home and parish and are places for children to learn about Jesus Christ and develop a relationship with him. As a parish community we are eager to journey with your family during this very special time.
Registration will begin at the Parent Information Night on January 20th 2015 (6-7pm) in the parish basement.
Please bring the registration fee of $30 and a photo copy of your child's baptismal certificate if they were not baptized at St. Vital Parish.
Feel free to contact Theresa Robinson (Pastoral Associate) with any questions: 780-929-8541
or theresa.st.vital.parish@gmail.com **** If your child is in an older grade and has missed receiving either the Sacrament of Reconciliation or the Sacrament of
Communion and you wish your child to receive either or both sacraments please contact Theresa at 780-929-8541 or theresa.st.vital.parish@gmail.com if you are interested in having your child participate in the preparation of these
sacraments.
January 21st Father Len will be visiting the Grade 4 Religion class here at EBMS.
