Creation Care and Stewardship of the Earth--The View from Christ Lutheran Church
All over the world, citizens and scientists are recognizing threats to the environmental well-being of Planet Earth. It's a global issue, but it has a local face. How are members of Christ Lutheran and the congregation as a whole already involved in caring for land, water, plants, energy, and other vulnerable resources? How might we learn and do more to care for God's Creation? Hear brief presentations about the environmental impact of our building (Milan Coburn and Tony Reinhold), the care of land and gardens at CLC and at our homes (Betty Luckett), the passion of our youth for environmental well-being
(Lucia Otten), and what the ELCA is doing to promote education and action (Dorothy Bass). Come with your own ideas, too. All are welcome.

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED On Wednesday, May 8, 2019, our congregation will have the great pleasure of welcoming members of the Ashland University Chorale for a wonderful evening of music in our sanctuary. Under the leadership of Dr. Rowland Blackley, the choir will be giving a performance as part of the spring 2019 concert tour. We are looking for members who would be interested in being host families for these students and provide overnight accommodations for them after their performance that evening (minimum of 2 students per household).
Please contact or speak to our Music Director Brian Bartusch if you can assist with this wonderful outreach. Soli deo Gloria!

CLC Social Ministry and Mission April 2019
Happy are the poor; the Kingdom of God is yours! Happy are you who are hungry now; you will be filled! Happy are you who weep now; you will laugh. (Luke 6:20b-21)
Each month the Social Ministry highlights a special giving opportunity. April’s emphasis is providing monetary and voluntary support for Housing Opportunities www.hoi.help (2001 Calumet Ave., Valpo). H.O. in 2018 housed 247 children, 453 adults, and saved 72 homes. H.O. provides housing for the homeless, helping families keep their homes, and coaching sustainable lifestyles. H.O. is committed to housing hope by providing programs encompassing prevention, crisis intervention, and permanent housing.
Right now, dozens of people in our community have no place to live—including adults who go to work every day and kids who go to school. Some of H.O. clients are professionals with college degrees who've hit hard times. Some clients are not able to work due to crisis or disability. 1 in 3 is a child. Housing challenges can affect people of any gender, age, or socioeconomic status. H.O. believes a safe, secure home is the foundation of growth and independence—the first step on the road to self-sufficiency.
Housing Opportunities prevents homelessness by offering foreclosure prevention counseling and coaching clients on the road to self-sufficiency. H.O. resolves homelessness for adults, children, and seniors in our community by offering emergency housing and affordable rentals. Above all, H.O. provides hope to clients experiencing homelessness and its effects. Housing Opportunities is sustained by community volunteers, local partners, and donors. Two CLC members currently serve on the H.O. Board and one member serves on H.O. staff, and volunteers from CLC are always welcome. Throughout April H.O. will provide a table in the gathering space to provide more information about services and programs.
What was that?
Pastor Knauff wore a communion chasuble on Easter. A first for CLC. A chasuble is an ancient tradition, highlighting the significance of Holy Communion. They come in all of the liturgical colors: white, green, red, purple, and even gold. Ours came as a gift from Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in East Chicago The congregation recently closed and decided to share their resources with other faith communities.
