NORTHWEST NOW
2
TOM LAYSONManaging Editor, KBTCProducer-Host, Northwest Now
On Friday night September 15th, all of us at KBTC are proud to present the ninth season of KBTC’s Emmy award winning public affairs program, North-west Now. Associate Producer Chris Anderson and I are looking forward to producing 30 new programs during our September through May run. And now, in addition to the half-hour Northwest Now pro-grams on television, be sure to keep an eye on our Youtube and Facebook pages to watch Northwest Now Digital First features too. I believe Northwest Now plays a vital role in creating a platform for in-depth discussions about the issues that affect all of our lives here in Western Washing-ton. My goal for the show is that our discussion and the information we present provide a deeper con-text for all the news information you are exposed to every day. One of the other great things I get to do on North-west Now is produce several special reports every summer. Those programs focus on topics that are a little off the beaten path. This year you can look forward to a feature about a man on Vashon Island who makes handmade caskets and a special report on a famous Tacoma-made fishing boat that served as the platform for a book by author John Steinbeck and marine researcher Ed Ricketts in the earliest days of the modern environmental movement. So, it promises to be another informative and in-teresting season for Northwest Now. And I want to send out a special thanks to those of you who write in with your kind comments about the program, and support it with your generous donations to KBTC. It reminds all of us about the importance of public media. Thanks for watching Northwest Now, Friday nights at 7:30.
