• Established in 1900; founded by a group of American Baptists
• Serves as the center of treatment, education and research of the region
• 1.42 million outpatients and emergency cases, over 71,000 inpatients
and 43,000 surgeries annually

Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) The Pain and Rehabilitation Medical Center consists of divisions that
specialize in Pain, Rehabilitation,Acupuncture, Massage, Traditional Chinese
Orthopedics and Physiotherapy.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine attracts foreign students and
international patients.

How the exchange works
• Short-term projects usually (e.g. 1-2 weeks)
• Short-term expert missions may include setting up and
executing training, providing advice and monitoring or
evaluating projects
• Many experts are invited for return visits
• Consider possibilities for host to participate in subsequent
exchange mission to Canada
What to expect – Sample itinerary
• Day 1: Departure for China
• Day 2: Arrival to China entry port – Shanghai
– High speed train to Zhenjian –Yangzhou
– HO receive and welcome
• Day 3: Department meeting, Project discussion
• Day 4 on: Training Session & Exchange assignments
– Weekend local tours
• Completion of Project: return to Shanghai

Volunteer Expert Advisors, must be:
• Able to spend between 1-2 weeks on an assignment;
• Have at least 15 years’ experience in the area of expertise;
demonstrated achievements
• Sponsored by a member of Osler’s leadership team
• In good standing with governing college and Osler
• Comfortable using online communication technologies (e-mail,
Skype and web chat);
• Able and willing to share their experience with international
community;
• Able and willing to adapt to new cultures and environments
• Eligible for Visa requirements in China

Associated Costs
China Expert Alliance will cover:
• The most direct and excursion airfare round trip from Canada to placement in
China
• All accommodation and meals while in China
• Business related transportation in China
• Visits to sightseeing places organized by the host
Individuals will be responsible for covering:
• Medical Insurance
• Travel medical preparation (e.g. vaccinations)
• Chinese visa and application of travel document (approx. $100)
• Personal expenses
• Excess luggage (in-China and international)
Osler will cover:
• Administration costs of East West Focus to facilitate the Exchange

Individuals interested in applying should submit their application package by

Components of the application package:
1. Application Form – download and complete the application form from Oslernet

2. Professional Resume – submit a copy of your recent resume
3. Letter/email of support from Osler Sponsor - Engage a leader within your area
that will support your application to the program. The letter/email of support does not
need to be long.
4. Any additional materials – submit additional materials to help showcase your
qualifications to the hospital in China (e.g. published articles, speaking engagements, etc.)
