Castello Zamittello was built by a wealthy Baron Bernardo Zamitt, and is a unique castle that lies on the outskirts of a country village of Mgarr, on the way to Gnejna Bay. Built in Norman style in 675, it used to guard against sudden raids by corsairs, as indicated by the four unusual guard turrets adorning its façade.

offers space in a hall format that has been tastefully decorated to appeal to contemporary taste. The flooring is parquet. The walls and ceiling offer an interesting and innovative design reflecting the cuts in a diamond. During the rule of the order of St John, the premises had been used as the house of the National Treasurer but only accounts, contracts and records of the treasury were kept. During the early days of the British rule the premises housed the Chief Secretary’s office, Government Treasury, the British packet office. Later the block was converted into a Hotel, and during the first decade of the century was taken over the Casino Maltese. In fact it was during the late 1800’s when the building was used as a Hotel, called “The Grand Hotel” and later taken over by the Casino Maltese. The club is considered as a living society of prestige, a national institution and forms part of the Malta’s history.
