The Beginning
Logging In:
● Go to https://hcpss.instructure.com/login● Log in using your current Username and
Password
Please do NOT use Internet Explorer. Use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
Courses:
● Click on “Courses” at the top of your screen ● Select the 90 Minute HCPSS Canvas
Training course for the list● On the Home Page, click on “Today’s
Agenda”● On the Agenda Page, click on the “Bell
Ringer Discussion”● Reply to the questions on the discussion

● Go to Today’s Agenda in 90 Minute HCPSS Canvas Training
● Click on Community Catalog on the left side of the screen
● Open the URL and find your curricular community
● Select Self-Paced Free

Inbox vs. Announcements
INBOX ANNOUNCEMENTS
● A way to send and receive messages inside Canvas
● It can be linked to other email services
● Announcements are from instructors to students in their courses only
● In your community, only an instructor can make an announcement
Discussions★ Allows instructors and students to start and contribute to as
many discussion topics as desired★ Discussions can also be created as an assignment for grading
purposes (and seamlessly integrated with the Canvas Gradebook)
★ Discussions can be used to help students start thinking about an upcoming assignment or class discussion or as a follow-up on a conversation or questions that began in a face-to-face classroom.
★ It can be used to test student comprehension of important points made in class, debate contradictory ideas, or brainstorm different approaches to a class problem.
★ Discussions are not the same as Announcements.
