INTRODUCTION

• BUSA elections are held annually

• 17 positions up for election

• 6 Executives, 11 Directors

• Coordinated in conjunction with Bondstock

BUSA’S ROLE

• Overarching student representative body at Bond

University

• Represent students‟ views and concerns to members of

Senior Management

• Advocate students‟ views and concerns to various

university academic committees – including Academic

Senate

• Facilitate the allocation of SAM funding each semester

• Act as the overarching body for all cultural and sporting

clubs

BUSA’S STATUS

• Legally incorporated entity under the Associations

Incorporation Act 1981 (Qld)

• Financial reporting requirements

• Legally binding constitution establishes the BUSA

Management Committee – responsible for conducting the

business of BUSA

• Coordinates the Education Pod

• Sits on various university academic committees

• Academic Senate, University Teaching & Learning, Admissions Standards, Program & Subject Review

• Responsible for advancing the academic interests and concerns of Bond students

• Coordinates the semesterly academic competitions

ADVOCACY DIRECTOR

• Currently held by Lucy Hopkinson

• Represents and advises students on

university policy, procedure and

process for academic and

administrative issues

• Manages the legal referral service

• Manages the “Reconnect Program” for

excluded students

PUBLICATIONS DIRECTOR

• Currently held by Andra Nasrie

• Responsible for BUSA‟s weekly student

publication “Scope”

• Responsible for managing the Scope

sub-committee

• Includes sub-editors, photographers and

graphic designers

• Responsible for producing the yearbook

• Due for launch in 113

SPECIAL INTERESTS DIRECTOR

• Ensures all students are treated

equally

• Coordinates the “Life One” program

along with Student Services

• Ensures residential services, including accommodation and

food are maintained at a high standard

CULTURAL CLUBS DIRECTOR

• Currently held by Olivia (OJ) Lesslar

• Liaises with all cultural clubs and

societies on campus

• Coordinates the semesterly “Executive

Drinks” awards night

• Assists in the allocation of the SAM

funds each semester

• Coordinates the “Club Support Program”

SOCIAL DIRECTOR

• Organises BUSA‟s major social events

• Pub Crawl, Grad Party, Mid-Semester Bash,

• Currently held by Kaitlyn Lewis

• Assists and liaises with all sporting clubs on campus

• Assists in the allocation of SAM funds each semester

• Coordinates and runs all of BUSA‟s semesterly sporting events

• North v South AFL, Business v Law Rugby, USA v RoW Basketball, Bondies in Brisvegas

• Coordinates the Bond Sporting Clubs Alliance Program

SPORTING PROJECTS & DEVELOPMENT

• Responsible for the long-term

development of Bond Sport

• Mascot and logo, uniform overhaul

• Responsible for publishing meeting minutes and ensuring BUSA‟s legal compliance

• Meets regularly with Information Services to discuss ITS matters relevant to the student body

• Ensures committee members complete weekly duties

• Responsible for the administration of BondSync

TREASURER

• Currently held by Patrick McNamee

• Ensures the financial viability and

success of BUSA by maintaining budgets

and accounts

• Responsible for the semesterly allocation

of SAM funds

• Works closely with clubs and societies to

ensure semesterly allocations of SAM

funds are optimised

PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR

• Currently held by Isabella Baldwin

• Crucial point of contact between

BUSA and the student body

• Responsible for the promotion of all of

BUSA‟s events and activities

• Includes posters, “What’s On!”, all_students

emails, video clips, Facebook promotion

• Meets regularly with Information

Services regarding communication innovation the

SPONSORSHIP DIRECTOR

• Currently held by Jacqueline Sihaphone

• Responsible for the administration of

BUSA‟s SAM Discounts program

• Acquires sponsorship from various

advertisers and organisations to

supplement funds for BUSA‟s activities

and events

• Manages BUSA‟s relationships with

external businesses

• Organises Club Sign on Day along with the Clubs Directors

IT & MULTIMEDIA DIRECTOR

• Currently held by Jeremy Carreon

• Responsible for the administration of the Bond Student Portal (www.bondstudents.com) and BondSync portal

• Meets with ITS on a regular basis as student representative regarding ICT developments of the University.

• Liaise with club representatives and FSA‟s to offer Portal promotion opportunities.

• Assists with all IT and multimedia needs of the Student Association

KEY ISSUES FOR BUSA 2011-12

ELECTION PROCESS

• “First past the post” ballot system

• Candidates may run individually, as a partial ticket or a

complete ticket

• Election will be governed by “Election By-Laws”

• Specific information regarding voting times etc. will be released in

these by-laws
