First Communion
22/23 August 2020
What a wonderful time
we had for our much-
anticipated First Com-
munion Weekend after a
very long prepara-
tion. Congratulations to
our children and their
families. May the joy you
experienced last week-
end stay with you
through the years to
come.
CONFIRMATION: Our parent information session has been adver-tised as being on Tuesday 1st September at 6.30pm. Due to the recent COVID changes, I am also offering a session at 2.00pm on the same day. Both sessions will be held in the parish centre. It is important that you book to attend as we can have no more than 10 people in a
gathering. In view of our need to limit numbers, I am asking that those parents who have had an older sibling involved in Confirmation preparation since 2017 please don’t attend the information evening and pop into the parish centre to collect the enrolment form and outline of preparation which has all the dates. I thank you for your patience in these very different times and look forward to journeying with your families in your child’s next step in their faith life.

We celebrate Social Justice Sunday this Sunday 30 August. This year, the Australian Bishops’ Social Justice Statement is titled: To Live Life to the Full: Mental health in Australia to-day. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the mental health of many members of our parishes, schools and communities. Understanding mental health will help us to be aware of those who need our support. The Bishops invite us all to re-ject stigmatisation, to work for the transformation of social determinants of mental ill-health, and to call for policies and service provision that meets the needs of the poorest and most marginalised members of our community. Download the Statement at http://bit.ly/SocialJustice 2020 WEEKEND MASSES - The maximum number for both churches is (50). You are not required to book for weekday Mass but must book in for weekend Masses.
Next weekend 5/6 September Mass times BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN FOR THE FOLLOWING MASSES
Sat. 5th September - Booval 5.00pm Sun. 6th September - Riverview 7.00am
Sun. 6th September - Booval 9.00am Sun. 6th September - Booval 5.00pm
If you would like to attend one of these Masses please phone 3282 1888 or email: booval@bne.catholic.net.au to make a booking. Bookings need to be made no later than 2pm Friday.
N.B. Please remember if you are feeling unwell please stay home and take care of yourself.
“What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” (Matthew 16:26) St Francis of Assisi once said, “Remember, you are what you are in the eyes of God, and nothing else.” We often forget this stewardship wisdom when we spend all of our time, tal-ent, and treasure to gain more of the world’s riches. We need to set our priorities based on God’s values of the materi-al world.
FRANCIS, THE COMIC STRIP

Hello Everyone
My name is Leanne Cook and this week it is my turn to tell
you a bit about myself and Sacred Heart Parish - Booval.
You can usually see me in the front seat with my mother on
the Sacred Heart side of the church at the 5pm Mass on Sat-
urday night. I lived in Japan teaching English for 11 years.
When I returned to Australia, I continued teaching English to
non-native English speaking students and preparing them for
their studies at university until recently. Also, after a few
years of being back here I realised that something was miss-
ing and I started attending Mass with Mum at Sacred Heart. I
immediately felt like it was coming home. What I enjoy and
appreciate about this parish is that it really feels like a com-
munity (perhaps like a soap opera) with all the ups and downs
but people really do care about each other and offer to help
when necessary.
In the future, I would like to see all members of our communi-
ty be able to reunite and return to our centre without fear of
disease. I would like to see our former community grow and
learn about how our community members from other cultural
backgrounds practice their faith.
On a final note, one of my favourite prayers is The Surrender
Prayer, words by Jesus given to Father Dolindo Ruotolo. It
has given me great comfort over the past few years, especial-
ly this year and I always believe Jesus is speaking just to me.
Give it a go.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you say
hello if you see me.
God bless
Leanne

PROCESSIONAL HYMN
Glory in the Cross
Let us ever glory in the cross of Christ,
our salvation and our hope.
Let us bow in homage to the Lord of Life,
who was broken to make us whole.
There is no greater love,
as blessed as this:
To lay down one’s life for a friend.
Let us ever glory in the cross of Christ
and the triumph of God’s great love.
Let us make our journey to the
cross of Christ,
who surrendered glory and grace
to become a servant of the great
and small,
that all people may know God’s face.
Though his birth was divine,
he knelt as a slave,
to wash common dust from our feet.

APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord, who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again
from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father almighty; from there he will come to
judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

COMMUNION
Unless a Grain of Wheat
Unless a grain of wheat shall fall
Upon the ground and die,
It remains but a single grain with no life.
If we have died with him
then we shall live with him;
If we hold firm we shall reign with him.
Make your home in me
as I make mine in you;
Those who remain in me bear much fruit.
If you remain in me and
my word lives in you,
Then you will be my disciples.
Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give to you;
Peace which the world cannot
give is my gift.

RECESSIONAL
We Are Called
Come! Live in the light!
Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord!
We are called to be light for the kingdom
To live in the freedom of the city of God.
We are called to act with justice,
We are called to love tenderly,
We are called to serve one another;
To walk humbly with God!
Sing! Sing a new song!
Sing of that great day when all will be one!
God will reign, and we’ll walk with each
other as sisters and brothers united in love!
