• It’s time to question what your edge is and what makes you stand out.

• This can be something about your work, the type of market you serve, your ideas or something quite new to the industry.

• “You are just as unique as everyone else” – be wary of this and think hard about how you an stand out with a sustainable edge!

2. Your Reputation Score

• Your Reputation is in this Industry (and most) is everything.

• “Rep Score” is a mental measure of your presence in the market, how much people like you and the respect they have for your work.

• As you get more Wins, More Exposure, Higher Profile Jobs, Your Score Goes Up.

3. Pricing, Packages & Reputation

• Your Pricing and Ability to get work is quite often linked to your Reputation.

• Most photographers grossly undercharge themselves which isn’t good for anyone.

• Make sure you charge a fair rate, don’t do Post-Production for Free and create quality work that people love.

• It’s best to package your services as best as you can – as “Hourly Rates” for photographers doesn’t always play out that well.

4. The “Right” Approach

• We all have 24 hours and 7 days per week with Families & Commitments to Juggle.

• It’s important to make sure your work and tasks are well structured.

• Talking Sales & Marketing, picking the right activities are a must in this area.

5. Your Business & Marketing Plan

• We are going to fill ours in together towards the end.

• Why? So you have something powerful to walk away with that you can get results from tomorrow!

6. Keeping Yourself in Track

• I love Photographers and most naturally are Creative Free Thinkers.

• Being Creative & Process Driven can be a hard ask, and it’s great to get help if you need it.

• Accountability Friends, Hiring a Business Coach / Mentor and just “Making Yourself DO IT” are critical for all this to work.

1. A Quality Website

• What is the first thing you do when you are planning on hiring someone / buying something?

• The Website we coin “Your Own Westfield” and it’s your Shop Front.

• Pay someone Awesome to do it for you if you can’t get it right – you want a beautiful, high converting lead grabbing site!

2. Email Marketing

• Mailchimp is my favourite platform which is often free for many.

• Weekly, Fortnightly or Monthly Emails are a great approach.

• You win by giving away free information and lightly selling your products.

• I get 20% + open rates each week and usually a lead each time!

3. Blogging & Content

• Don’t start me! This is one of my favourite areas that has totally expanded my profile over the last 12 months.

• Write articles of interest around what you do, share them with your community, become the “Expert” and get found on Google.

• “Web Log” = “Blog” – this is today’s “Newspaper!”

4. Facebook

• Can be brilliant for photographers!

• You can connect Personally, Create Your Business Page, Build Likes, Boosted Posts (for very generous amounts) and get sign ups to events, webinars, sell products, get leads.

• Very powerful and this alone gives me at least 2000+ views per day!

5. LinkedIn

• Outstanding for “Business Networking” Online.

• Not so much broad exposure or clicks – BUT it’s brilliant for connecting with people based on what they do, where they work and often their position in a company.

• The Premium option is great and a strong platform for many “Professional Services”. Let’s say you are targeting people in agencies – great!

6. Business Networking

• This is an old Proven Classic of being parts of Networking Groups.

• Many Small Business Owners (and photographers) do really well in this environments for picking up direct work and referrals.

• 4Networking, Chambers, Google it and Explore!

7. Referral Networks

• Having your Partners is a critical part of success in business.

• Photographers Natural Friends are Graphic Designers, Re-Touchers, Agencies, Marketing Consultants, Marriage Celebrants and Fashion Consultants to name a few.

8. A Beautiful Folio & Materials

• Having your best photos on your iPad for show is great.

• Having a Beautiful Folio to Handover / Show off is even better.

• At least 10 x Samples of a great Cross Section of your work.

• People buy with their eyes!

9. Listings & Profiles

• Quite often (especially in “Professional Services”) people will often Google ones name to *check them out*.

• Be it Facebook, LinkedIn, Flying Solo, 4Networking, Forums, Communities and the like – quite often your name may rank in these engines.

• I am lucky to have a rare name, but if you have a common name – consider a tweak, initials or a “Nickname” even to help you stand out.

• Still to this day, I am very surprised / impressed at how often people will “Google Stalk” anyone!

10. SEO & Google Presence

• “Search Engine Optimization” is the field of getting yourself found on “Google” for certain say “Phrases”.

• Say “mechanic parramatta”, “graphic designer melbourne” – it’s great that your site may come up.

• This is a whole area of itself, however great places to start is by “seeding” your site and content with the right words for which you want to be found.

Pick & Choose & Plan!

• These are only some areas of Marketing which are my personal favourites.

• The trick is to say pick a few that you like and just do them well!

• You can do some research yourself or feel free to speak with me – I help many of my Private Mentoring Clients work out which tools suit them and what they are doing.

• Look at what “Feels” right and if you don’t like it, don’t do it!
