ASHANTI DRUM STOOL$1,980

Stools indicated power, status, and lines of succession in traditional Ashanti culture. The flat base, curved seat, and
ridged supports reference the Ashanti King Stool. While most Ashanti woodworkers carved the central support into a
symbol or animal, this maker went with a more realistic drum, even including two staving mallets. Representing power
and leadership, drums were associated with respected members of the tribe. The surfaces have acquired fantastic
character with time and use. We particularly love the asymmetry of the upward reach of the top.
