“ The growing commoditisation of wines frustrates me. Where is the
pleasure in wine that all tastes the same? The wine I love contributes
to a proud winemaking tradition because it is true to its origins and
has its own character”
–Owner/ Winemaker, Sam Coverdale
Sam Coverdale established Even Keel in 2006 with a vision to create
drinkable, elegant wines that surprise and celebrate the individual
strengths of Australia’s wine regions. Since 2009, he has specialised
in premium, single-vineyard wines from the Mornington Peninsula,
under the Polperro label. With a focus towards increased vineyard
health using a mix of organic and biodynamic principles. Polperro
winery is the home for our handcrafted wines.

Wines by the Glass
SparklingNV Courabyra 1 of 11 ‘Rosé’, Tumbarumba, NSW 16
Tumbarumba, NSW is one of Australia’s premium cool climate wine regions.
A deep pink sparkling wine, with intense raspberry and redcurrant on the nose with a touch of white truffle and warm spices. On the palate, flavours of jammy cherries and boysenberries. There’s lots of texture and it’s finish is fresh and bright. This is a full flavoured expression of rosé.
NV Andre Clouet ‘Grande Reserve Brut’, Champagne, Fr. 25
A 100% Pinot Noir Champagne, with grapes sourced from Bouzy and Ambonnay in the epicentre of Champagne Fr. The wine is rich in stone fruit and concentrated yet shows lemon blossom freshness.
White2018 Nick O’Leary, Riesling, Canberra District, ACT 11
For over ten years, Nick O’Leary Wines have focused on making hand worked wines that truly exhibit the character of the Canberra region as well as expressing a unique personality and style.
This regional blend, consists of 9 different vineyard parcels. The wine has aromatics of white flowers, apple blossom and citrus. The palate is generous with a powerful mix of Granny Smith apple and freshly squeezed lime. The mouth-watering natural acidity leads to a pristine palate of balance and length.
2017 Domaine Champalou, Chenin, Vouvray, Fr. 17
This family estate is located on the Vouvray appellation, in the heart of the Val de Loire and has been operating for over 20 years. It is here that Champalou works with the grape variety king of the Loire: Chenin.
They embrace sustainable farming while also integrating the use of the lunar calendar more traditionally associated with biodynamic viticulture. The Champalou house style produces wines of great elegance and tenderness, highly aromatic with impeccable balance. No one comes close to copying their distinct style.

2013 Le Rocher des Violettes, Côt Vieilles Vignes, Malbec, Vouvray, Fr. 13
The entire estate at Le Rocher is certified organic. With most of the vineyards being planted pre-1940 the yields are naturally low and all harvesting is done by hand.
This 100% Malbec, known locally as Côt , is hand-picked from 1.8ha of old vines, planted in 1918, 1970 and 1991, which is whole-bunch fermented. A dark and savoury wine with gentle fruit flavours, upheld by a powerful acidity.
2015 Domaine Jean Perrier et Fils ‘Arbin’ Mondeuse, Savoie, Fr. 17
Jean Perrier & Fils is a family estate that has been passed from father to son for seven generations since 1853. With a vineyard of 60 hectares, this is the leading family making mountain-style wines, using unique grapes typical to the region such Mondeuse.
Mondeuse is a variety of wine that is typically Savoyard and not dissimilar to a Shiraz grape. Deep garnet coloured, the nose is enticing with aromas of freshly-cracked white pepper and ripe red fruit such as raspberries and red currant. The palate is vibrant with fresh ripe red fruits, sweet vanilla, peppercorn, balanced acidity, low alcohol, and a delicately long finish.

NV Hickinbotham ‘Noble’ Sauvignon Blanc, Mornington Peninsula 12
Established by winemaker/owner Sam Coverdale, the Polperro Wines are Estate grown on the Mornington Peninsula. The Polperro wines respect winemaking tradition and are produced with the principles of integrity, honesty and sense of place. Every process from the vineyard through to the final wine is carefully considered, nurtured and crafted.
As winemakers and winegrowers, our team is focused on increasing vineyard health using a mix of organic and biodynamic principles. We believe what you put into the vineyards you get back tenfold.
Our wines are sourced from 8 vineyards owned, leased or managed by our viticultural team. Of these vineyard sites, 3 are identified as ‘single vineyard sites’, due to the high quality of fruit produced and terroir, the special characteristics of the land.
Our single vineyard sites are named after laneways and alleys from our home in Polperro, Cornwall, UK.
Our Single Vineyards
Landaviddy Lane
Landaviddy Lane vineyard is located on Tucks Road in Shoreham. Our Pinot Noir vines were first planted here in 1992, and reside on a gentle southwest facing slope with the vine rows running in a north, northeast direction.
Mill Hill
Mill Hill vineyard is located on Arthurs Seat Road in Red Hill on a north-facing slope with vine rows running due north. At 270m above sea level, this is the highest and one of the more exposed sites in the region. This ensures a long ripening period which creates high levels of natural acidity which persist through to the wine. There are three grape varieties planted on Mill Hill – Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.
Talland Hill
Talland Hill vineyard is located on the Polperro property in Red Hill. The vineyard is 170 metres above sea-level, with north facing vines. The Chardonnay greets upon entry to the property with the Pinot Noir vines visible from the bistro deck. Enjoy a fantastic bottle of our Talland Hill, whilst watching the next vintage growing.
