Aerojet’s Goals for Remedial Action
• Shared Goals - Aerojet and Stakeholders– Meet EPA and State of California goals and objects
– Protect the community’s drinking water resources
– Halt migration of chemicals
– Restore the aquifer
• Minimize disruption to Carmichael community
• Partnership with regulators, local government, water district and the community– Community outreach
– Proceed with the timely planning and implementation of Groundwater Remediation
– Identify opportunities for beneficial use of treated water
Path to Successful Implementation
• Collaborative Approach to Response – Carmichael Water District (CWD)– Aerojet Corporation– Federal and State Agencies (EPA, DTSC, RWQCB)– Sacramento County
• Board of Supervisors
• Parks
• Water Resources
• Real Estate
• Development of Mutual Benefits as Part of Project Scope
Path to Successful Implementation
• Unique approach to problem solving
• Carmichael Water District with full support from its Board quickly responded– Teamed with Aerojet to seek win-win solutions– Protect the Water Supply– Engage with multiple stakeholders– Protect the interests of the Community– Push for timely resolution
• Innovative use for treated water benefited CWD customers and the Parks
• Multiple project paths resulted in the completion of the Bajamont plant while issues with Ancil Hoffman were resolved
How the Cleanup Process Works
Groundwater contamination moves with groundwater flowGroundwater Resource
Protected
Surface WaterWestern Groundwater Movement
Extraction well intercepts and stops plume movement
Extracted groundwater is piped underground to treatment facility
Cleaned groundwater is piped underground to discharge point and returned to environment
Enclosed treatment filters remove contamination

Ancil Hoffman GET L-A Design Considerations
• Established residential and recreational area• Minimal impact to Community (short and long-term)• Limited available land to site well and treatment plant• Use of County land for locating extraction well(s) and
treatment plant• Design goals
– Minimize visual impacts in natural setting– Minimal impacts to various park uses and activities – Compatible with existing golf course structures
• Floodway constraints• Integrate design with CWD Storage Tank Project
