dust cake

• How it works?

-

-

-

-

-

-

Surface filtration principles

Acts as a primary dust cake

Prevents fine dust penetration

Excellent cake release

Preserve integrity of the substrate

Optimize filter performance

substrate

PTFE membrane + Base

substrate = PTFE filter media

The Thin film of PTFE membrane gets

thermo bonded on to base fabric, which is

selected as per operating conditions for

each application

What can be substrate

• Needlefelts, woven fabrics, non-

wovens, etc.

• Substrate depends on application

- temperature, chemistry, strength, stiffness,

durability, cost

• Thermobonding only

What do all these mean to you?

1.High particulate capture rate2.Excellent dust cake release

3.Near Zero Emissions

4.Lower Pressure Drop5.Higher air flow

6.Increased Filter Life7.Reduced Operating Costs

8.Increased Production Output

9.Higher Air-to-Cloth Ratios

PTFE membrane media can help solve problems

in following cases in process Industry

✓ High temp and acidic condition areas

✓ High moisture and hygroscopic dust

✓ Fine particle size

✓ High dust loading

✓ High pressure drop across baghouse

(typically more than 150mm wg)

✓ Short bag-life (typically about 6-12 months)

Coal Mill Bag house using PTFE membrane bag

• A Classic Live case history

• Details for line-1 coal mill Ultratech Tadipatri APCW

• The membrane laminated Acrylic bags are running successfully for last 3 Years;

• Complete Operating Parameters of same [Coal Mill process bag Filter, Line 1]

• Bag Size : 149x3660mm Membrane Acrylic Fabric bags

• Number of Bag : 2156 Nos.

• Flue Gas composition:-100% pet coke in kiln&80-90% I coal+ 10 to 20% imported

coal in Calciner

• Dust Load: - 161 g/m3 for pet coke and 304.11 g/m3 for Indian coal

• Operating Temperature:- 65c to75*c

• Moisture percentage:- 0.6 to0.7% in pet coke&1.5 to1.7% in normal coal

• Present Pressure Drop: -80-100 mm WG[ As against Normal range of 130-150 mm]

• Motor Requirement: - Mill process Fan 950kw /80 Ams

• Product used : membrane laminated Acrylic bags

Affordable membrane bags

• PTFE membrane products were

launched more than 20 Years back,

• In past many years various Companies

explained and informed about

Advantages of e PTFE Membrane bags

to different customers, but not many

companies bought the idea

• The reasons ……will follow in

subsequent slides

THE EQUATION

• The prices of these PTFE membrane bags were on very High side, it

was not viable for all companies or different industries to procure at

high rates and use, and returns were not attractive at all;

• As a result very few companies could use High Value High

Temperature glass bags with membrane lamination

• By 2005 Indian Cement Industry is major consumer of PTFE

membrane bags, But still there were about 30-35 bag house

applications using glass membrane bags

Reasons of Higher costs and resultant low usage

in Critical applications

• The Products were manufactured abroad and on finished items the duty part was very High;

• The multinational companies were charging High

premiums

• This product was sold as niche segment product

• A RABH Glass membrane bag of size 292 mm x 10370 mm was sold @ Rs.18500/= per bag

Membrane bags were unviable in Non High

Temperature Normal Segment

• For Non High Temperature segment the rates were almost out of reach, were in

range of Rs.2500 per bag for bag size of 150 mm x 3600 mm as against Rs.250

per bag for a Polyester bag.

• This was almost 10 times the cost of Normal Non membrane bag cost;

• We Indians are Price sensitive

• All Technical users as well as buyers used to ask for Rate, and then the

life/performance and The Equation was Un Affordable

• For 10 times the cost the bag But life and performance was double [even

considering other advantages Indian buyer were better off buying same normal

bags 8 times in same cost ]
