How Flowers Attract Bees?
Science Fact Mainly by colour.
Bees can see Blue and yellow as well as ultraviolet light (which
we can’t see). So most flowers that get their pollen spread by
bees, have yellow, blue or ultraviolet markings.
Bees can’t see red, so there aren’t very many red wildflowers.
In jungles, flowers are pollinated mostly by birds, who do see
red. So there are a lot of red tropical flowers.

FILM MAKING
Since 2009, Film-Making has become an integral and vibrant part of our school curriculum. During the past five years, we have produced over 50 class short movies, involving speaking roles for more than 1000 students in total. It has been a wonderfully successful program. However, we felt that this year it would be nice to have a change and do something different. So...instead of producing one short movie per class as in the past...we are producing one FEATURE-LENGTH film involving the entire school. This is a unique, exciting and challenging project with many opportunities for student involvement...and will also include a dance performance by each year level as part of the narrative. The story revolves around six students...one from each year level...who by circumstance find themselves playing a strange board game called Destiny...and in doing so causing a series of disastrous transformations to sweep through the entire student body. Their peers all changed into everything from monsters to jungle animals to geriatrics...the children must race against the clock to set everything right before the final school bell...or else the transformations will become permanent. It is an exciting and action-packed story with nearly 250 speaking roles available, spread throughout the year levels. Unlike previous years, not every child will have a speaking part (it is simply not feasible within a story to have that many)... ...but every student will be featured prominently throughout the movie. Students will also become more involved this year behind the scenes in roles such as set design, prop construction, wardrobe and make-up. Rehearsals for the project have already commenced and everyone involved is very excited about the challenge of producing our very first feature-length movie. Main filming will be scheduled for the first month of Term Three, and the movie will premiere to the school community at Southland Cinema on November 11 and 12.
If you require a hard copy of the Home Communication
please write a note in your child’s diary.
