• Types of Recycled Material

• Paper recycling

• Metal recycling

Introduction

Recycling is a pretty simple concept:

take something that isn't useful

anymore and make it into something

new instead of just throwing it away.

Definition

Recycling is the process of making or

manufacturing new products from a

product that has originally served its

purpose.

Why recycling is important

• Too Much Garbage

• Conservation

• Energy Saving

• Recycling creates jobs

Types of Recycled Material

Almost anything can be recycled.

• Paper

• Metals

• Glass

How does it works

Steps for Metal recycling

• Collection

• Sorting

• Compressing

• Shredding

• Inspection

• Melting

• Cooling

• Metal working

• Step One: CollectionScrap metal is collected from the

households as well as from the different

industries. It is then sent to the sorting

agents.

• Step Two: SortingThe metals are sorted based on their type

and composition. Metals that are similar in

composition are packed together and sent

to the recycling centres.

• Step Three: Compressing

The metals are compressed using press

machines, to reduce their capacity and

capable to move them to shredding.

• Step Four: ShreddingOnce the various metals have been

separated, they will then be fed into a

machine which cuts and shreds them into

tiny pieces.

• Step Five: Inspection

Before these metals are melted, an

inspection is conducted to see if the metals

that are similar in composition are kept

together.

• Step Six: MeltingThe metals are, later, heated in smelters.

Smelters are devices which melt big

chunks of metals at very high

temperatures. Each metal or similar

metals have different smelters because of

their different melting points.

• Step Seven: CoolingOnce the metals melt fully, they are molded

into small bars and are allowed to cool down

before they are reused. These small bars

are called ingots.

• Step 8: Fabrication

Once the metal ingots have cooled and

hardened, they are put into a machine that

rolls them into flat sheets, which form the

basis for new metal materials.

Aluminium Recycling

• It only exists in combination with oxygen,

forms an extremely hard material known as

alumina.

• Then, a powerful electric current is run

through the liquid to separate the

aluminium from the oxygen.

Process

Steel Recycling

• It is cheaper to recycle steel than to mine

iron ore and manipulate it through the

production process to form new steel.

• Steel does not lose any of its

inherent physical properties during the

recycling process, and has drastically

reduced energy (save 60%).
