was founded by ShannaKirkpatrick in the fall of 2006with less than 20 studentsmeeting three evenings aweek at the Friends ChurchGym. After two years at thatlocation, Shanna moved hergrowing student base to RatonPlaza on FM 528, enrolling120 students by the thirdseason. Now, five years later,that number has tripled andthe academy is now buildinga 10,000 square foot danceand music studio at the cornerof Friendswood Drive andHunters Lane.

Chara Christian DanceAcademy is a truly uniquedance studio in many ways.The atmosphere of CharaDance is incredibly uplifting

and welcoming to all students.Shanna’s desire is for studentsto look forward to walkingin the doors and feelingappreciated and valued. Notonly is that Shanna’s desire,but it is the goal of the 11instructors and two officepersonnel at Chara.

Shanna enjoysproviding an excellentplace of employment forher instructors. Chara’sfaculty members have eitherperformed professionally orhold their degrees in danceor music. By employingexceptional instructors,Chara provides extraordinaryinstruction and programmingto its students. The academyis the only studio in theFriendswood/Clear Lakearea to offer a graded balletsyllabus, something recentlyrecommended by theAmerican Academy of Ballet.With its professional faculty

and new, larger facility, Charais now able to expand theirclass selection.

The small business ownersin Friendswood support eachother and the community trulyhas a “shop local” mentalitywhich Shanna herselfsupports. Chara ChristianDance Academy has beenvoted “Best Dance Studio”by Friendswood/PearlandJournal Readers for four yearsin a row.

Since graduating fromTexas A&M University,Shanna and her husbandBobby, youth pastor ofFriendswood FriendsChurch, have lived inFriendswood. Bobby grewup in Friendswood and hisfamily has deep roots in thecommunity. They love beinga part of Friendswood andare excited about raising theirfamily here.

City of Friendswood Approves $20,000Grant for New Japanese Fusion Restaurant

Based on the City‘sCommunity and

Economic DevelopmentCommittee’s review andproposal, FriendswoodCity Council approved aneconomic incentive grantto Masa Sushi JapaneseFusion Restaurant for theconstruction of a new 5,236square foot restaurant and4,252 square foot retailbuilding. The grant willreimburse the businessup to $20,000 for feespaid to the City relatingto the construction and

development of the project.The $1.545million project

will be constructed on 2.71acres at the corner of FM 518at Hunters Lane and shouldbreak ground by the end ofJune. Upon completion, theproject will have a positiveeconomic impact to the Cityincluding increasing propertyand sales tax revenues ofapproximately $44,400annually. In addition, MasaSushi Japanese FusionRestaurant will employ 23persons and the 4,242 squarefoot retail building will be

available for lease.Since 2008, the City

has awarded $130,000 tobusinesses through theChapter 380 Municipal GrantProgram that, in turn, hascreated $11.5 million in newtaxable value and created orretained 155 jobs in the city.For more information on
