Tasting notes

Slight tropicality on the nose. Subtle pineapple, hints of melon and ripe peach. Verylinear with a beam of waxy lime and floral citrus blossoms alongside white flowers. Then under ripe white peach and nectarine. A prickle of gooseberry is very nuancedand appealing. The deliciously saline finish continues on and on. Top-tier BordeauxBlanc. Score: 18.5

About the producer

Corinne Mentzelopoulos, daughter of André Mentzelopoulos, the Franco-Greeksupermarket magnate who purchased the estate in 1977, now owns 100% ofChateau Margaux. Despite not having a background in winemaking, she took thereins after her father's death and now expertly runs this celebrated estate with PaulPontallier, who became manager when Philippe Barré retired, Emile Peynaud theoenologist and Philippe Bascaules who joined the team in 1990.

Margaux is one of the most historic estates in Bordeaux and is considered a nationaltreasure. It has changed hands many times over the centuries, passing through awho's who of French nobility as well as the hands of powerful merchants such as theGinestet family.

The consistently outstanding quality of Margaux during the years of theMentzelopoulos-Pontallier partnership is no coincidence though and demonstratesthat the greatest terroirs need to be understood and worked on by people of raretalent, passion and commitment to achieve their full potential.
