Chicken production is considered as a valuable asset for African farmers and make important contributions to food security, poverty alleviation and the promotion of gender equality within the household. It has a major role in the economy of developing countries and backyard production is particularly important to improve chicken production as a means to reduce poverty. Although Ethiopia has a huge resource of poultry, the country is not getting the required benefits from this sector due to poor productivity of local hens and cocks, undeveloped production system and high disease prevalence among many other reasons.

In Ethiopia traditional practices continue to dominate domestic poultry production, however, there has been a shift to commercial production with an increase in small and medium-scale producers that have been established to exploit the urban demand in the past 20-25 years.

I found this Exhibition very nice. I think it’s very well organ-ized. Ethiopia has a big population in Africa and has a great demand for what we have to offer. For that reason, we have found many potential customers and I met a lot of very interested people in parent stock & our breed. Many people came to our stand and we expect more customers to visit us on the next event. We are very happy to come back next year again because this event has supported us to show our good performance.
